Please note: This device features integrated freesat tuners, but to enjoy freesat broadcasts you will need a dish and cabling installed. freesat does not require a contract or a subscription – just a one-off payment for your dish and installation. If you’re serious about home entertainment and want to record digital broadcasts in Full-HD picture quality, you’ll love the Panasonic DMR-BS750. This sleek mirror-fronted unit houses a Blu-ray player/recorder, twin freesat tuners and a 250GB hard drive Personal Video Recorder. Oh, and did we mention that it’s also a multimedia hub too?

With two tuners you can record two channels simultaneously, or watch one while recording another. Using the 7-day Freesat EPG, you can choose what standard definition or high definition content (if the later is available) to record. There’s room on the integral hard drive for up to 35 hours of best quality high definition or 110 hours of standard definition material. Once you’ve got your favourite shows captured on the hard drive, you can back them up to blank DVD (standard def) or Blu-ray (hi def) discs if desired.

Dubbing to Blu-ray is easy and you can use any one of the four high definition compression modes to squish up to 12 hours of hi def content onto a single blank Blu-ray disc. Clever stuff!

Please note: The BBC and ITV ‘flag’ all hi def broadcasts for copyright purposes, and you may only be able to copy your high definition recording only once or not at all to Blu-ray media. Also, to record 2 channels simultaneously relies on two satellite inputs - so if you only have one feed from your dish, you can only record and watch the same channel.

Not only can you enjoy Blu-ray movies, but also thanks to upscaling technology, this player can give your standard definition DVDs a near high definition “makeover” when connected to a compatible 1080p TV. You’ll notice detail in your favourite films you’ve never spotted before!

The DMR-BS750 also features an SD memory card slot and a USB terminal, so you can immediately view video recorded with an HD camcorder and JPEG images taken with a digital still camera.

With the DVI, HDMI v1.3 and scart sockets, along with optical output, you’ll be able to connect your Panasonic Blu-ray disc player to other components to create a magnificent home theatre experience – even more so with the easy-to-use controls. Connect to a compatible home cinema system to enjoy Dolby Digital Plus 7.1-channel surround sound - it’s the nearest thing to being there! Dolby True HD and DTS HD high resolution audio are also supported.

Connect the DMR-BS750 to the internet via its Ethernet port and you’ll experience even more functionality and fun. There’s the BD Live profile for a start. Depending on the pre-recorded Blu-ray disc, when your player is connected to the internet you can download a variety of up-to-date content (e.g. refreshed previews and special exclusives). Imagine downloading wallpaper and ringtones relating to the action movie you’re watching, or taking part in a live online event relating to your favourite sci-fi film? And thanks to the VieraCast feature you can access websites such as YouTube and Picasa. As more VieraCast optimised sites become available it’s easy to add them via the onscreen menu.

Don’t forget an HDMI cable
This delivers crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single lead - which you won’t get by using an old-fashioned analogue connection - for the ultimate viewing experience.

A guide to Blu-ray Disc technology
Blu-ray laser technology gives you much greater storage on just one disc. For example, one Blu-ray disc holds the equivalent of 35 CDs’ or 5 DVDs’ worth of storage. It’s the same size as a DVD disc, but by using a shorter wavelength and a narrower (blue) laser beam spot, it can hold greater capacity.
