Lavazza A Modo Mio Favola Plus Coffee Machine by AEG
Lovely coffee - machine not fit for purpose
We have just returned our third machine to John Lewis. Each time, after about 4 months of use, we could only make one cup of coffee from the 1 litre tank as the rest of the water went straight into the drip tray and onto the kitchen units. Very disappointed with the AEG machine as we love the coffee of Lavazza but sadly we have had to buy a Nespresso coffee maker instead.
All credit to JL who refunded our payment in full without quibble - that's why we shop at John Lewis.

So far, so good!
I'd been toying with buying a coffee machine for some time & did quite a bit of research online. I'd narrowed it down to a pod based system simply as easy to clean and I wasn't going to be drinking a huge amount of coffee, but when I did, I wanted the choice of something of good quality.
I had a demo from the AEG sales advisor in JL at Bluewater who was excellent and then later spoke to the JL sales advisor who I expected to be impartial. My main worry about the Nespresso machines were the access to buying the pods (online only) and probably in large quantities else pay delivery etc. I liked the fact that this AEG machine used the Lavazza coffeee (which I love anyway) and I could buy the pods with usual Ocado shop aswell as other main stores & online.
So to get onto the machine, it's very small and takes up little footprint on the kitchen workspace, it's quiet, efficient and so far has made excellent coffee. It takes a bit of getting used to using the milk frother but after 5-6 cups, I'm getting the hang of it now.
I guess the only thing I can think of that was missing which would have been nice to have is a guide into how to make all the various coffees using this machine. e.g. 1 part coffee, 2 part milk for a cappucino etc. but I guess I will find it online somewhere.
All in all, after a week of ownership and admittadly on about 10 cups made, I'm really please with it.

Lavazza coffee machine
We purchased the coffee machine on Wednesday 18 although we visited the store on the previous Saturday and were aware of a special offer was only up to Sunday 15. The fact that we had met Tom the demonstrator previously and he had been excellent in explaining the details and workings of the product we felt happier making the purchase through him.

Good at first - less good after a year
The coffee this machine produces is lovely - although this is largely down to them being Lavazza coffee as much as anything else.
The operation is easy, with the programmable water amount being very useful. Personally, I find the milk frother quite disappointing, but I don't make milky coffees very frequently at all, so this isn't an issue for me.
Having owned it for 16 months, and used it only moderately frequently, I now have a few doubts about the reliability of it. The spout through which the coffee comes drips and has done since around four months after buying it. This means the drip tray fills up much more quickly than the capsule tray, so the unit needs removing more often than the 10-12 capsule capacity would suggest.
More of a problem is that the capsule release level has developed a tendency to not release the capsule properly - it appears to be moved out of position and therefore doesn't drop down into the capsule tray, making it impossible to use another cartridge. This requires the machine to be turned off, allowed to cool down before removing the capsule tray and poking the trapped capsule upwards, aligning it with the slots as I do so. Hardly ideal - particularly as I like two capsules in my (rather large) coffees.

Ok, not great
Had a non-AEG coffee maker before, and this is not as good. The coffee is not hot enough, the programmable pour level does not work for a big cup. However, it is straight forward to use and looks good.

A lovely machine
This is a really great machine, easy to use and clean. It makes a great cup of coffee every time. The capsules are easy to find and the machine stores plenty of used ones. The water tank holds enough for a good day's coffee and is easy to refill. The milk frother is easy to use once you have the knack - it is best if you use a small stainless steel jug. I have used other machines and this is certainly the best so far.

Marvellous Macchiato Machine!
After being let down by a machine from a well-known brand, we saw this machine being demonstrated in store by Will, who was very helpful.
We chose the Frosted Almond finish which looks good in our kitchen. This is a matter of taste/décor. Small, neat design does not take up much space.
The AEG is efficient and produces excellent coffee of all types, thanks to the superb Lavazza capsules, the two coffee buttons (one for short, one for long which you programme yourself) and the steam/frother wand.
It is not too noisy, and collects the empty capsules in a built-in tidy.
Easy to clean and descale. No coffee grounds. The illumination is helpful and auto turn-off even more so. All round clever machine.
