Product information

Asus' Transformer Book Trio TX201LA will change the way you think about computing. This unique 3-in-1 machine can function as a tablet, laptop or even a desktop PC. This device is packed full of advanced technology from the likes of Intel to deliver the ultimate mobile experience.

A convertible Android tablet & laptop
Like Asus' other Transformer models, the Transformer Book Trio TX201LA features a keyboard dock with a removable tablet, so it can function as either, depending on your needs. The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM and runs Google's Android operating system, with access to all of the features you've come to expect from the platform, such as Google Play.

A Windows laptop & desktop
When the tablet is secured to the dock, pressing the Windows key will transform your device from Android laptop to Windows laptop. The keyboard base features the technology you're used to finding in a laptop computer, including an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. You can access all of your favourite Windows 8 programs, with enough processing power to perform more intensive tasks, such as video editing. If you want to share the experience with others, or just need a larger screen, you can remove the tablet and connect the base to a TV, projector or monitor, as a desktop PC.

An Android tablet & Windows desktop at the same time
With the base in desktop mode and connected to an external display, you can use the Android tablet independently, making it great for families who need to use multiple device at the same. Plug the base into a monitor while your kids play games on the tablet.

And everything else
The Transformer Book Trio TX201LA features a Full HD screen for detailed visuals, whether as an Android tablet, laptop or Windows laptop. Bang & Olufsen ICEpower delivers well defined audio, making this device great for music and movies. Both tablet and base feature a variety of ports, while the tablet includes both front and rear facing cameras, so you can make video calls and take photos with the same device.

Q & As

Asus Transformer Book Trio TX201LA Convertible Android Tablet & Windows 8 Laptop & Desktop Base, Dual Intel Core i5 & Atom Processors, 11.6" 3.6 5 5 5
Very happy with my Asus Trio I bought this from John Lewis when it first came out and have been using it since. I saw the reviews recently but wanted to clarify a few things. The Asus Trio works in the following ways: 1. As a Windows desktop (built into the keyboard base) 2. As a Windows / Android laptop (almost instant switch between the 2) 3. As an Android tablet The appeal of the Trio is entirely based on the order of priority you place these. For me the first of these is the most important. I have the base of the unit connected to a large external monitor. Sometimes I attach the Trio screen so I can use both screens but the majority of time the Trio screen is used as a separate Android tablet. For this, for me it works perfectly. A few points: 1. It really should have a backlit keyboard, memory card reader in the base and SSD as standard. And I would have liked an RJ45/LAN connection. 2. Switching between Android and Windows can be a little hit-and-miss - Sometimes you just have to separate them and force the Android tablet to shut down. 3. The upgrade to Windows 8.1 is freely available. Mine upgraded automatically with no fuss or pain. 4. I highly recommencd replacing the HDD with an SSD - It is a little fiddly to do but the almost instant boot time is absolutely invaluable (the same advice applies to all PCs, once you have used SSD, you never go back) 5. When running in Windows Laptop mode to an external screeen: Windows does not allow you to set the font/icon size for screens independently of each other. This is a bit of a pain when one is screen is 11.6" and the other is 24". For what I want - There is currently nothing on the market which competes with it. 27 August 2014
6 months and still loving it I purchased one on the boxing day in 2013. I was awed by the build quality and loved the way the windows base knows the android tablet and the ease with which you could exchange information between them. I don't have a brilliant eyesight, so I found that using larger fonts with 1600 x 900 resolution worked best for me. However, the display is an excellent 1080p device that's superior to the MacBook Air. Being a techie, I run a lot of virtual machines on the windows base. The Android tablet is equipped with an aptly powered Atom processor that does everything in a snap, I never have to wait for things to work. I was amazed to see this wonderful device being rated low on John Lewis (The happy users like me never thought of rating it I guess). Thinking of downsides, the only thing I can think of is inability to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. I have been in touch with Asus about it but they don't have a plan to do so. I might upgrade to an SSD and put some more RAM into it sometime next year but honestly, I don't feel the need for that. Highly Recommended ! 17 June 2014
Transformer Trio Bought one of these from John Lewis as they seemed to have the best current offers. Purchased from the Sheffield store & it was a toss up between that or a surface pro 2. While the Pro 2 was cheaper the Transformer seemed a better option with the dual OS & tablet / laptop functions. Unfortunately the assistant that helped me choose explained that the transformer was a better bet as it had 6gb ram as opposed to the surface 4gb . They also had a little plaque next to the machine which also stated it did indeed have 6gb. That was the clincher for me so I bought it there & then. Now here's the bugbear, it only has 4gb ram & it cannot be upgraded. Very disappointed as I feel mislead. The product is exceptionally well made & seems to function well even if a little tainted . 10 June 2014
Teething problems I spent a lot time finding a product that's exciting and doesn't carry any type of a fruit on its logo. I really wanted to be impressed by the Trio when it eventually came on the market. At first everything was fine and I was able to enjoy the benefits of a laptop and a tablet (in all fairness I find the instances when I need to use it as a tablet very rare). Then the tablet part of the computer wouldn't turn on or accept charge. A quick trip to John Lewis and the computer was sent for repairs. I got the mended unit back and at first everything was OK till after about 4 hours of use the same symptoms re-occured. This time around I got a brand new replacement from John Lewis and was pretty happy with that. This time however it's the PC part of the computer that's not working. Tablet turns on fine but it doesn't detect the PC part of the computer. Guess there are few issues that needs solving before this is the product I wanted it to be. John Lewis have been very good about this throughout the multitude of problems I've had with ASUS. 07 April 2014
Nice idea but too much of a compromise Bought this to replace an old lightweight notebook and avoid having a tablet as well. Whilst the build quality and operation of this was excellent, it was just too much of a compromise. The tablet section is great with lovely screen but actually just too bulky to handle comfortably and carry around. With the keyboard attached it is a little heavier than I expected and the screen size for Windows 8 is just too small to be comfortable for serious work with spreadsheets and documents, perhaps a higher resolution screen would help. After a couple of days I realised that my expectation of a serious laptop and tablet combined is just not available yet and I returned the machine. Thanks to John Lewis for making things so easy, a real example to other retailers. 18 February 2014
