BabyBjörn Original Classic Carrier, City Black

Product information

This classic carrier from BabyBjorn allows you to carry baby safely and close to you whilst keeping your hands free. The comfortable design is suitable for use at home or when you are out and about. It incorporates two reflective pinstripes on the front to be more visible at night. Holds baby in two positions: facing inwards and facing outwards. 100% cotton.

The ergonomic design provides the correct support for your child's head, back and hips. The adjustable head support can be folded down when they are old enough to hold their head up. The front section can also be fully opened so you can take out a sleeping child without waking them.

BabyBjorn has teamed up with the Royal College of Midwives to launch an educational booklet explaining correct ways to carry baby, tips for taking them out and about, and much more. Q & As

BabyBjörn Original Classic Carrier, City Black 4.1 5 19 19
Has its uses If you're doing your research online on baby carriers you'll likely find that the babybjorn carriers are pretty much blacklisted. This is a shame as I found when my little girl was under 4 months this was a great carrier. She slept in it, appeared very comfortable and it allowed me to do lots with 2 free hands! Having said that, the older (and heavier) she got, this carrier really did start to fail us. My daughter would pulls her legs up and wriggle like she couldnt get comfy. As others have said, the weight of the baby pulls down on your shoulders so using the carrier does get really quite painful at times. I found it uncomfortable after 20 mins or so when my daughter reached around 15lbs. So... great carrier to have for early days with your newborn but I'm moving to something more supportive (for me and her) now that shes 8 months are our babybjorn carrier doesn't quite do the trick anymore. Maybe a lot of money to spend for a relative short amount of time/wear. I imagine premature babies would get longer from the carrier. 25 February 2014
Really uncomfortable product Really hurts your back . weight is carried right at the centre of the back and is so uncomfortable. . We used it a couple of times and I'm still suffering, I thought it might just be me but all the family have tried and it has the same effect... don't recommend the cross back construction, really disappointing for the price. 04 February 2014
Poor Carrier. Hurts back and shoulders a lot This carrier was lent to me, which is just as well, as it absolutely killed my back! I also have a Bjorn Active and that's no better. All the baby's weight is distributed across the upper back, rather than onto the hips as it should be. The baby's legs do not wrap around parent's body and simply drag down/forwards. Not a healthy sitting position. One sentence: go and buy a Beco Gemini or Mei Tai carrier, both of which carry up to 18 kg and face forward still! 20 April 2013
Suspect Design I bought one of these after being taken in by all the marketing on the product vendor's web site. It is very comfortable for the carrier but the position the baby hangs in does not seem natural. After finding time to do some proper research I soon came to the conclusion that this design has been insufficiently tested and may be harmful to either the lower spine or the hips of the child. It is generally better for the infant's legs to be raised higher. Whilst Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip usually develops at birth it is possible for it to develop later since it is caused by a combination of both Genetic and Environmental conditions. There is also a growing body of research that suggests that certain swaddling techniques may cause Dysplasia. If this is true a carrier could also be harmful. Before you buy this product watch the Video on the Vendor's site featuring Dr. Klaus Parsch doing some interesting doubletalk. 21 January 2013
Best Carrier Bought this with our first baby and have used it so much with him and our second. Easy to get on by yourself and get baby in. Comfortable and well made. Best carrier of this type I have used/seen - well worth the money. 24 December 2012
Really recommend a Baby Bjorn over a cheaper baby carrier I had one of these for my son, and have just bought one for my brother and sister-in-law who are expecting their first baby. Really excellent product, got loads of use out of it. Super easy to use single-handedly and well made 04 November 2012

Easy to use carrier I chose this carrier because it was a Which? best buy, and came with a reasonable price tag. My daughter and granddaughter think it's easy to use and comfy. 29 February 2012
