BeSafe iZi Combi X3 Isofix Car Seat, Black/Alcantara

Product information

This ultra-safe Isofix seat is easy to install. The BeSafe iZi Combi is a brand new ‘combination’ seat that lets your child sit facing rearwards until 4 years of age, then allows them to sit forward facing when the time is right. Rearwards seating is recommended as a safe sitting position for children as it reduces strain on the back and neck in the event of an accident.

Group 1, 9-18kg in the forward facing position and groups 0+ and 1, 0-18kg, in the rearward facing position. BeSafe recommend that children remain sitting in the rearward facing position for maximum safety, up to 18kg. BeSafe recommend this seat is used for children who can sit upright, making it suitable from 6 months. For children under 1 year, or 10 kg, the most reclined seating position should be used, with the body hugger and seat cushion.

In the rearward position, the seat secures to car's Isofix points with colour indicators to show correct installation of the car seat. In the forward facing position the car's seat belt is used to secure the car seat and features advanced belt routing, making it very easy to install correctly and securely.

The iZi Combi is packed with safety features that include a 5-point harness with central and height adjustment for a secure fit, excellent side impact protection to support head and neck, an anti-rotation front brace to protect your child from rear impact, height adjustable head support and shoulder belts that are adjustable in 8 different positions to ensure a snug fit. The car seat also comes with a body-hugging internal cushion to provide comfort for smaller children.

Little travellers will enjoy the comfort of the adjustable seat that provides 4 different sitting or sleeping positions for a comfortable journey. The magnetic connectors that hold open the harness allows you to easily place children in the seat and the removable washable car seat covers makes for easy cleaning and are machine washable at 40° wool cycle. Made with a sandwich construction that includes a reinforced plastic shell and with a soft shell interior for a robust and secure car seat.

All our car seats and infant carriers comply with current European regulation ECE R44.04.

Safety:

  • Under no circumstances should a car seat be used on a passenger seat where there is an airbag.
  • Correct fitting of all car seats and boosters is of paramount importance to make them most effective in the event of an accident. Not all car seats fit all cars and it is important to check for fitting suitability on all cars you intend fitting the seat to, as well as re-checking if you change your car.
  • Always read the instruction booklet which comes with your car seat to achieve a safe and correct fitting, retaining the guide for future reference. We recommend fitting your car seat in advance of first using it.
  • We recommend that babies shouldn`t be left in Group 0/0+ car seats (infant carriers) for prolonged periods.

Suitability:

  • Please make sure that you check the car seat you choose is suitable for your car before ordering.

Please contact your local shop to see if this service is available. Alternatively, please contact the car seat manufacturer who will be able to advise whether their model will be suitable for your car.

Q & As

BeSafe iZi Combi X3 Isofix Car Seat, Black/Alcantara 3.9 5 11 11
2 years later and still happy with it. Our daughter is nearly 5 and is still rear facing in this seat with plenty of room (bear in mind she is on the small side at 33lbs). Yes this seat is huge but most extended rear facing seats are and the padding on this is really lovely, it feels much more safer then the Britax one we tried. It is a heavy seat and if you are wanting to move it between cars often then it could be an issue but ours stays in the car and is only moved to another maybe twice a year. Am glad we bought it and would recommend it but do check it fits in your car first as ours will only go behind the passenger seat as my OH is 6'5 and cant have it behind him when he drives and we have a salon car. This is the same with most extended rear facing seats but just to warn people to try it in your car first! 17 August 2014
Not as good as I expected The spring in the head rest broke after 2 days of use. Besafe repaired it within 2 days by sending a representative to my home address. The head rest is awkward and stiff to move with the button and the button is quite low down in the back of the head rest so its not that easy to move. The seat is big and leaves little leg room in the front passenger seat of my car. I have a fairly large Mazda 6 hatchback. I find the harness strap really hard to pull tight which makes it almost impossible to pull straight, potentially causing future damage to the strap (as others have commented on). The recline isn't that good and my baby (11 months) doesn't sleep that long in it compared to her old infant carrier which Ive only just stopped using. Incidentally this seat is supposed to be good to use from 6 months and at 6 months we tried it in my car so my husband could have the infant carrier to drive her to nursery but she looked uncomfortable and hunched and her head was not well enough supported. By this time she could sit unaided. We had to buy another infant carrier until i felt she was old enough for this seat hence us just using it again now at 11 months. By all accounts this seat is supposed to be very good and I have no concerns with regards to the safety aspect of the chair, but I just don't gel with it. I also find it difficult to instal and get out of my car, but my husband does it in a couple of minutes so its probably just me. There are easier and slightly smaller ERF seats on the market and the Maxi Cosi 2way Pearl that JL also stock is a breath of fresh air! Worth a look if you want a better recline and an easier to use seat. Its also Isofix forward facing too! I have reviewed that seat also. 19 March 2014
I agree with one star review of jan 2013 The seat is terrible and I will re-phrase what is written here, had to come back to John Lewis to purchase another car seat this year after 3 months of usage. Same issues found and reason for buying a new seat and spending more money is that "The seat is huge and needs a lot of space. - The seat is very heavy so it is far too time consuming and bulky to move from car-to-car." - the reclining position is cry difficult and cannot be done as from the driver seat if your child falls asleep while with maxi cosi this option is very easily done. 13 January 2014
Excellent car seat A very good product, solid and high quality. The seat is relatively easy to fit, and is very secure and solid once installed. The removable washable protective pad which the child sits on is very useful if there is a little accident :-) . The magnetic holders for the shoulder straps is a very clever feature and holds back the straps while you put the chuld in the seat. Dont under estimate how much space this seat takes up, we use our Mk3 renault scenic and it just fits in - if you want to still travel in the seat in front. 08 January 2013
Poor quality belts We bought this seat because after lots of research we believed it would be the safest seat. However, it has major drawbacks and after less than 1 year we're throwing it away. Here are our issues: - Out daughter (now 2 years old) can slip her shoulders out of the belts, no matter how tight they are. This is a serious safety issue. (This isn’t possible with the other seat we use for her.) - The design of the belt mechanism means they often jam. The belt fabric has excessive wear and it is not always easy to faster her in. Worryingly, the belts are not covered by the warranty! - The seat is huge and needs a lot of space. We have a large 7 seater and with the seat in the rear facing position there is very limited front seat legroom; this is an issue (in our car) for anyone over 6 foot as their knees will be touching the dashboard, which would be a major issue in a collision. - If used forward facing, there is no isofix. - The seat is very heavy so it is far too time consuming and bulky to move from car-to-car. 07 January 2013
brilliant seat im a nanny and have had this seat for 8 mths and the only niggle ive found is it doesnt recline as much as i would like although none of the babies and toddlers ive used it for have seemed fussed and have all slept happily in it. all in all a fab seat, easy to install in my renault scenic (and yes the car does have floor storage but the leg doesnt lie on the lid its further forward on the floor so its safe). youngest ive had in the seat was 6 month and oldest was 3years 4 mths (he still had plenty of growing room). all in all a really good seat with the added knowledge of being safer rearfacing for longer. 24 December 2012
GREAT SEAT!! 5 times safer It tooks us few months to decide which seat to decided because it was so much choice out there but when my friend pass me this information, i new i´ll buy this one without thinking if is too much money or not!! who can put a price on your child´life?? BeSafe Rear facing car seats are 5 times safer Back in the 1960s medical traffic researchers in Sweden discovered the advantages of having small children sitffting rear facing in a collision. Consequently there are no forward facing car seats for children under the age of 3 on the Swedish market and this reflects very well on Sweden which has the lowest accident statistics in Europe! Forward facing child car seats - subjecting the neck and head to considerable strain. Small children are not miniature versions of adults. Their heads are disproportionately heavy, their backs and neck vertebra are under-developed and their reflexes and ability to react are poor. If a child is sitting forward facing in a collision its head will be thrown violently forwards, subjecting the neck and head to considerable strain. The child also risks injuries from impact with the front seats or from fragments flying into the part of car where they are sitting. So if you want the bes for your child, go for this car seat , IT´S FAB!!! 14 November 2012
Quality Seat Rather heavy but it looks and feels very safe. Very easy to install and use. It provides a good sitting position which allows my 22 month old to see out of the window. He is comfortable and is happier in this seat than he was in his previous seat. The manufacturer might consider a foot plate (rather than only the bar) which would be useful. I am really happy with the purchase and think it is money well spent. 04 September 2012
