bloom Alma Papa Cot 3 5 2 2
Well designed but not well made This cot is very cleverly designed and nice and compact. However, despite being pleased with it initially, after a few months of use we became concerned about the safety aspect of the fabric of the cot when we noticed the white paint had flaked off. We only realised it was happening when our baby woke up and had flakes of white paint around her mouth and on her hands. When we took a closer look we saw that there were several pale white patches where one of the two layers of paint had come away, and three patches of bare wood where both layers had come off. To make matters worse, the patches of bare wood had begun to splinter which was a real safety concern so we contacted John Lewis to return it. To add context to the situation, our baby was using the cot for seven months and has only had teeth during the last three months of use so this issue was not caused by biting. The area affected was not along the top rail where a child would teeth but on the flat inside side panel of the cot above the rail so the fault can not be explained by teething. I'm sure this is just a one off as Bloom have a good reputation, which is why we bought the cot in the first place, but I wanted other parents to be aware of the issues we faced before making their choice. We are lucky we purchased the cot from John Lewis who have been fantastic and agreed to return and replace the it with another brand as I've lost confidence in the Alma Papa. We now have a John Lewis Lasko cotbed and, so far, are very pleased with it. 05 February 2014
