Kettle looks good quality. The base is 21cms x 18cms. I filled to 1.5L or 6 cups as per the instructions. There are marking on the inside of the kettle to denote MAX. In addition you have the window underneath the handle which is large and gives you the two marking signs in litres or cups. I filled by opening the lid. With a narrow tap you could also filter by the spout. The inside of the kettle is plastic (black in our case) with a stainless steel base.
From cold to 100° took 3 minutes 15 seconds (times of other temperatures below) on maximum capacity. 100° is the default setting out of the box and flashes to let you know this is the chosen option. To reduce the temperature you simply use the -/+ button on the base to reduce to your desired temperature with settings at 70° (2 minutes), 80° (2 minutes 25 seconds), 90° (2 minutes 45 seconds) and 100° 3 minutes 15 seconds). You might use the keep warm function when you start to boil the kettle by pressing ON and then the keep warm button which illuminates. So rather than stand over it you can go about your usual business and then return to the kettle in the knowledge that after it has boiled it will be kept warm – simples!
To reassure those worried about the beep I would say that it is far from intrusive and isn’t loud or long. There is a good reason for the beep. On most kettles they have a rocker switch with 0 and 1 marked on. Moving the rocking to 1 switches the kettle on and you normally get a reassuring click. As the ON switch for this kettle is on the base and is not a rocker switch on the kettle I can see why the clever engineers at Bosch have opted for the beep over a rocker switch. Personally I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
There was no overspill from the lid or spout when filled to the maximum level.
A well-deserved Which Best Buy (2011). Note there is a newer model of this kettle available model no TWK86103GB (sadly John Lewis didn’t stock this in Black at the time of the review).

Why does it need to bleep when it is turned on and when it boils.
Very very very very annoying.
Can it the bleep be turned off before I strike it with a hammer?

Bought this very stylish kettle as a feature in the kitchen. Looks great especially with the matching toaster. Very happy with product. Features are easy to use boil at 100 or less, stay warm etc.

A lovely kettle which looks expensive and classy, I purchased the white version and it looks fabulous in the kitchen. It has not marked or scratched at all and is very easy to wipe down. The temperature gauge is an excellent idea, especially if you like drinking hot squashes or fruit teas. I would agree with the comments that the beep when you switch the kettle on is pointless, but the beep to alert you when it has reached temperature is useful. Perhaps Bosch could design it with a switch to mute this, so it would suit all users.

... my kettle developed a leak after a couple of weeks use. Bit disapppointing as was very pleased initially with the kettle and matching toaster. I've swapped it over for the same model again, hope this one lasts a bit longer!

Apart from its speed and jug capacity, the main attraction for me are the 4 temperature controls - ideal for herbal teas, coffee, and traditional tea.
