Bose® Solo TV Sound System, Black
I am not going to write another long review here. I simply want to confirm, that it does what it says on the tin.
Easy to set up, two levels of base, Plenty of oomph to fill a large room and gives virtual hi fi sound,
We had just bought a 47" TV from a major manufacturer and found the sound system dismal. Thank heavens we disregarded some negative views of this product both here and on Amazon and took the plunge. It really does bring a new dimention to TV sound.

Does what it says, excellently!
OK, so if what you want is thunder from every corner of the room, this is not for you.
If you want perfect enhancement of the sound from your TV system, with an unobtrusive unit which is simple to connect (power, link to TV) and is simple to control (on/off, mute, louder, softer) then this unit is worth every penny. The sound covers the whole room without the artificiality which we have experienced elsewhere.
We didn't really want to put it under the tv itself - no problem, it went perfectly on the shelf below. We are fortunate in that the shelf unit is at an angle, so the bass ports are well away from the wall.
Our previous sound bar, also from John Lewis, developed a fault so was returned. Why did we not simply replace it with another? The remote for that was covered in identical buttons and therefore tricky to use correctly. It had a separate sub-woofer, which was too bassy even with the bass turned right down (which you had to do again any time the power was removed from the unit). And the sound clarity was disappointing.
The Bose Solo has amazing sound balance and clarity straight out of the box. Its digital sound processing means that changes in volume are managed miraculously - I no longer have to reach for the control every time the adverts come on! It adjusts to the type of broadcast, so that films get a gratifying bass roar when required, and speech is no longer plagued with over-reaction to bass voices.
If what you are looking for is what the Bose Solo offers, then I can recommend it without hesitation.

Lets get one thing straight from the off, the Bose Solo isn't a surround sound system or a sound bar, it's a sound enhancer, designed to replace the tiny speakers built inside LCD TV's.
The Bose Solo is more compact than a sound bar, so if space is an issue it's the ideal choice, it's simple to install - just stick it under your telly, connect the power and the optical cable (provided) and switch it on.
I have watched sports, films, music channels and general tv shows and found that the sound it produces is excellent, it fills the room, and I mean fills it with a good balance of highs, mids and lows, the vocal track isn't lost and I don't find the bass too boomy or overpowering as some reviewers have said.
Overall this is a really good product that does exactly what it's supposed to. I understand that it is expensive, Bose is quite a luxury brand and i'm sure cheaper sound bars would do the same job, and in some cases maybe do it better but for a no nonsense, easy to set up, easy to use way of doing justice to the high-def picture on your expensive LCD TV you can't go far wrong.
Easy set up
Compact and tidy
It ain't cheap (hence 4 stars)
No display - it would be nice to have a visible volume number
The sound can't be adjusted to suit personal taste but in truth you shouldn't have to.

Tidy sound from a tidy unit TV sounds much better
I got this Bose sound system to enhance the sound of my, otherwise excellent, Sony KDL-32HX753 TV. I had considered everything from adding a pair of PC speakers through soundbars to a full blown 5.1 home cinema setup. I was despairing of finding something that would (a) do the job, (b) not cause clutter & (c) fit with the TV (the tv stand is an elegant easel type so a 'normal' soundbar would obscure the bottom of the screen).
Having seen a review of the Bose and also seeing (hearing) one in action at a friend's house I decided to go for it. It is really easy to set up (via optical digital in my case - all cables are supplied) and sits neatly under the TV - raising it by a couple of inches.
The sound is fantastic - much more detail & clarity and, though not designed as such, quite good with music too. It doesn't give you the full surround and is not designed to do so and I would doubt it would add much to larger TVs which by design would/should have better speakers than a skinny 32" like mine.
I think positioning is important - it probably sounds boomy if on a closed shelf - but some experimentation with how close to the wall it sits does make a small but noticeable difference.
The only real negative point for me are the fact that the bass & treble can't be adjusted - that seems like an omission on an audio product. Also it takes a little while to get used to using the supplied remote to switch it on & off and control volume - it would be much simpler to use the TV remote.
In summary then - if you have a TV that sounds a bit thin and you don't gulp at the price this is an excellent solution to the problem. I would recommend it highly.

I wanted tp buy a speaker for my parent's T.V. as a gift and asked specifically for a speaker system that did not have a lot of base as the previous one I bought had far too much base.
I was trying to decide between this product and John Lewis' own one and the salesman pointed me towards this one, saying it had better sound quaity. The demo didn't sound too bad, so I decided to take a chance, even though it was more than I wanted to spend.
When I connected it up, I was hugely disappointed to find, yet again, a lot of base present which was not heard using the T.V. speakers. During a sports commentary, there were sounds like someone touching the microphone or wind noise or something #not ehard with the T.V.speakers#, which has been amplified far too much and was very intrusive. I suppose these are the frequencies amplified to give the floor-vibrating "cinematic" feel, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid. What is worse, it cannot be adjusted at all.
I read some tips online which I have tried #covering the rear speaker outlet# and this has helped a little, but considering the price of the unit, I feel I should not have to be making this sort of home-made solution. As it was a gift, my parents are too polite to say #yet# that they don't like it, but I feel that it will be going back soon.
I would have given it two stars if it were a reasonable price for the system #about half of what it cost#, but it loses a star for being so expensive for what you get.

This was a gift to my boyfriend.
It was set up within minutes, it looks smart under the tv and no messy cables.
The sound is amazing, so clear.
Very happy with this purchase and will definitely recommend it.

Best Purchase this year!
Ok, I had to think hard over purchasing this sound bar as the in-store demonstrations were rather poor due to the size of the room and all the shop noise going on, so I decided to buy any way as there is a 30-day money back guarentee.
Well what can I say, this product is absolutely amazing, the sound is so clear and it packs alot of base too. I did not expect it to be so good due to the in-store demos which do the product no favour as it is for a normal size living room, not a department store.
If you want your films to sound like they do in the cinema, this is for you. This system sounds like 7.1 surround system, just without all the cables and speakers dotted around the place.
My advise, if your even slightly thinking of buying it just do it, you wont be dissapointed.
It is BOSE after all! You get what you pay for so no, the price is not expensive for the quality you get here!

A Sound Sensation
We purchased this from John Lewis in Cheadle after debating over a handfull of soundbars.
This won hands down. Its sound is wonderful and the fact that it's one box is unbelievable....
It has a richness and clarity that other one box solutions seriously lack (it can also give those with an external subwoofer a run for their money too!)
Well built, effortless to set up. this is a must for anyone who wants a clear, simple and fabulous sound from their TV.
Granted its not cheap but to be honest, even though I didnt want to spend that much, I'm glad I did......
