Bose® SoundLink® II wireless mobile speaker

Product information

The SoundLink® II combines timeless monolithic looks with Bose audio knowhow that will keep the most demanding audiophile happy. Built-in Bluetooth allows for easy streaming from tablets, phones and other devices in moments. Engineered for durability, with an integrated cover, it still manages to be exceptionally lightweight while pushing out room-filling, party-starting sound.

  • Small and portable, the speaker fits in your hand, bag or backpack. The built-in leather cover flips open to become a stand, shuts off the speaker when closed, and protects it while in transit.

  • Detailed sound with substantial bass notes. Instead of heavy woofers or large ports, specialised passive radiators handle the low frequencies — the only way a speaker this small can produce such deep sound.

  • Pairing the speaker with your Bluetooth device is simple — and you only need to do it once. Just press and hold the Bluetooth button on the top panel, then choose the SoundLink® speaker from your smartphone or other source. It's now memorised, ready to play in an instant. The speaker keeps up to six sources in memory. Wireless range is about 10 metres in most situations.

  • A rechargeable lithium-ion battery keeps the music going strong for up to eight hours. If a plug socket is handy, just use the included power adapter - it'll charge the battery while you listen. An empty battery usually charges in 2 to 3 hours. A separate car charger is also available for charging between destinations.

  • Features an auxiliary input for playing other audio sources, like an MP3 or portable DVD/CD player.

  • USB port for software updates ensures ongoing device compatibility.

  • Customise your look. Additional covers are available separately in burgundy or tan leather, and red or purple nylon to match your style.

Q & As

Bose® SoundLink® II wireless mobile speaker 4.5 5 6 6
Bose Wireless While, when it works, this sounds great, it has several fundamental irritations. Firstly, Bluetooth seems an unstable connection. You want a device that you just turn on, first time. This rarely happens with the mobile speaker, you are often having to try repeatedly to get it to work, whatever device you are playing through it. Sometimes you have to go right back to the connection stage, for a device you have already paired. As I say, possibly due to the nature of Bluetooth, but you will rarely walk in, turn on, and be listening to your chosen source. The method of turning it off, by closing the cover , while it is clever, is not really very practicle. Why does it need a cover? For many years, a button has been the accepted way of turning things on and off, why do Bose think this in an improvement? Also, the way that this makes it sit at an angle on a slightly unstable base make the unit liable to falling over. It is designed as a portable unit, so why not give some thought to how it can be easily carried. As I said, it sounds great, as you would hope from Bose. But mine has an irritating flutter, which I am not sure is due to the unit or a characteristic of the Bluetooth connection. If I could be bothered iI would bring it back in and have it checked. What you will also have to realise is that if you want to be able to hear your source in more than one place at a time, you will have to buy more units, that is, while your Wireless speaker is playing in one room the computer that it is streaming from is silent. How many things do you want to have to buy from Bose? Lovely when it works, but irritating. Five stars for sound, but three overall due to the other considerations. 25 March 2014
Solid, Quality and Surprisingly load Got this for my Wife's Birthday. We'd had a series of cheap and nasty docking stations and wireless speakers over the last couple of years, all of which either broke instantly or were just painful to listen to, so decided to push the boat our a little of this one. Well worth the money. Never been much of a Bose fan before. As a bit of a hi-fi nut in the past always had them pinned as all hype no trousers. But this speaker is really very good. Solid defined base, no distortion and with a clear higher end. Gives out a pretty big punch too. Enough to run a party in the garden. For a single box you get a fair amount of imagery. Watching Netflix on an iPad with the speaker just above it I was getting noticeable stereo effects and panning. Blue Tooth pairing very simple and range excellent (obviously restricted to how powerful the signal from the sending device is#. We have no problem using the speak 30 metres away down the garden from an iPhone in the house #with direct line of sight#. A sturdy thing, cover is a nice feature and #like the iPad# it switches itself off when you close the cover - also pauses the source #iPhone) One word of warning, when you switch it on initially the volume is right down - I panicked thinking it wasn't working but everything was fine :) 20 January 2014
Pretty amazing sound from such a small device My wife and I decided to buy the Bose SoundLink II speaker to play our digital music collection from various bluetooth-enabled portable devices, such as our iPhones, iPads, etc. We wanted to stream our music collection using iTunes Match. The setup procedure was very simple and successful: we were able to sync all our devices without any problems or fuss. The sound quality, for such a small device, is pretty impressive. Best results, as explained in the manual, are obtained from placing the unit on a level surface, such as a desk, sideboard, etc., with a wall immediately behind. The richness of the base tones when you follow this recommendation is pretty good. The overall sound quality produced is equally impressive, but obviously lacks the richness of sound produced by specialist hi fi equipment. The portability of the unit motivated our purchase, along with the Bose brand name. We do not regret our purchase or buying the unit from John Lewis – the staff were, as usual, very helpful and swiftly resolved a minor delivery glitch during the busy post-Christmas sales rush. 15 January 2013
Really clever product With blue tooth technology you can have your speaker in one room playing music whilst the iPad/iPhone remains somewhere else in house. Great for playing tricks on Dad by changing his music whilst you are supposed to be in bed. 30 December 2012
Stunning Looks, Deep Rich Sound This speaker is so small u hardly notice it When u do notice it, it really does look great especially with the chrome detailing. Some reviews say its heavy, i'd say it feels expensive and sturdy. Perfect for apartment living, No wires apart from the charging cable and even that can be put away after its charged. Currently connected to my laptop, 2 x Samsung S3, 1 x Samsung S2, an Ipad and TV (via aux in) When u turn it on, it's like magic to your ears. well done Bose, it's the perfect upgrade to my sounddock portable which i sold last year, as well as my iphone. However its not as loud. Initially i purchased the sounddock 10 which i felt was too much for my needs and apartment. Having given the sounddock 10 back this is perfect. A Plug N Play Speaker with minimal Clutter Room Filling Clear Sound with plenty of Ooomph and Good Looks Bought from JL @ 10% cheaper than Bose themselves A well deserved 5 stars for this product! 12 November 2012
love it but for one thing We took this out of the box and had it playing from my iphone in seconds. It takes up hardly any space in the room and the sound is excellent. BUT we want to use it with 2 iphones and an ipad and changing to a new pairing is not easy and seems to be a bit hit and miss. This is my one disappointment. There may be a quick way to do this but the bose book does not say and as yet we are struggling. We will keep our soundlink but probably only use it with one iphone because of the hassle in getting it to recognise a second or third device. Had it been quicker/easier to do this I would have given the product 5 stars. I may phone J.Lewis to ask for help on the additional pairings. 20 October 2012
