Q & As

Rated 2.2 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hard to fill, especially now the lid's broken! Couldn't believe it as I started to read the reviews - I see that so many others have had exactly the same problem as I've had, ie the lid has broken as the screws have sheared off. Unfortunately I'm now just outside the two year guarantee period, even though the lid has been loose and on its way out for at least a year. Even before this I was unhappy with the kettle as it's very hard to fill via the spout and the lid was always difficult to get off, even more so once the rim started to rust a few months in. Overall very disappointing and one to avoid! 08 April 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Another broken lid Great kettle until the lid broke. there seems to be a theme emerging here! 13 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broken Lid! Seems to be a known problem - lid just comes right off at the screws. Not sure why John Lewis are still stocking this poor quality product! 01 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Another broken lid It looks like I'm not alone - but the lid has sheared off. AVOID! 09 February 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broken lid, within a year The handle is joined to the lid with metal screws, which screw into plastic sockets. One of these plastic bits has sheared off. The handle is now loose on one end, and will probably break off entirely soon. It occurs to me that I had better replace the kettle before this happens as it could be a bit dangerous if it went flying when hot. 31 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Quality - Form over function A great looking kettle , however on closer inspection the materials used in it's construction appear to be of poor quality. My suspicions were confirmed within a few months when the handle plastic started to crack towards the top. Now after around 10 months use the on/off switch has broken clean off. The kettle is used maybe 5-10 times per week on average - so I don't feel it can be described as abused. The lid is stiff to remove, however I don't struggle but I can easily see how others could. As for it's main use, boiling water; It's ok, nothing to rave about, nothing to criticise and it does the job. The kettle function itself feels like it has loads of life left and works like the day I bought it, shame. For a £50 kettle I would recommend you look elsewhere for your needs, purely down to the quality of the materials used. I myself have been put off Breville as a brand and won't be buying another. 22 December 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by This was a gift too embarrassed to ask for receipt This kettle was a gift and we would be too embarrassed to ask for receipt. I have read other reviews and agree about the awful smell when we boiled the kettle and the plastic tasting water.... However this did wear off over time. For us the worst thing was the tightening of the lid To the extent my husband could never remove it. Eventually the top disengaged and we now just have the silver bit which we have to open with a knife. More often than not my husband leaves the lid semi open.... I refill through the spout ( not easy) Dangerous practice for pensioners or anyone else for that matter. We keep thinking we must replace and when I went on line to do so I was astounded at the price of this kettle compared to Russell Hobbs ones which we have always bought in the past. Disgusting price for such a shoddy kettle. 27 November 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broken lid.... Bit of a common scenario... after 16months the handle of the lid broke off. I would not recommend this kettle, as its longevity is questionable, as it seems a common issue, and we only use the kettle a couple of times a week - so not a heavy kettle user/ Full credit to JL, who enabled my to switch to one of the Bosch kettles. 19 September 2014
