Q & As

Breville Opula Collection Kettle 2.4 5 33 33
Poor Quality - Form over function A great looking kettle , however on closer inspection the materials used in it's construction appear to be of poor quality. My suspicions were confirmed within a few months when the handle plastic started to crack towards the top. Now after around 10 months use the on/off switch has broken clean off. The kettle is used maybe 5-10 times per week on average - so I don't feel it can be described as abused. The lid is stiff to remove, however I don't struggle but I can easily see how others could. As for it's main use, boiling water; It's ok, nothing to rave about, nothing to criticise and it does the job. The kettle function itself feels like it has loads of life left and works like the day I bought it, shame. For a £50 kettle I would recommend you look elsewhere for your needs, purely down to the quality of the materials used. I myself have been put off Breville as a brand and won't be buying another. 22 December 2014
This was a gift too embarrassed to ask for receipt This kettle was a gift and we would be too embarrassed to ask for receipt. I have read other reviews and agree about the awful smell when we boiled the kettle and the plastic tasting water.... However this did wear off over time. For us the worst thing was the tightening of the lid To the extent my husband could never remove it. Eventually the top disengaged and we now just have the silver bit which we have to open with a knife. More often than not my husband leaves the lid semi open.... I refill through the spout ( not easy) Dangerous practice for pensioners or anyone else for that matter. We keep thinking we must replace and when I went on line to do so I was astounded at the price of this kettle compared to Russell Hobbs ones which we have always bought in the past. Disgusting price for such a shoddy kettle. 27 November 2014
Broken lid.... Bit of a common scenario... after 16months the handle of the lid broke off. I would not recommend this kettle, as its longevity is questionable, as it seems a common issue, and we only use the kettle a couple of times a week - so not a heavy kettle user/ Full credit to JL, who enabled my to switch to one of the Bosch kettles. 19 September 2014
Disappointing - Broken Handle As per other reviewers, we have had the kettle about a year and the plastic handle on the lid has broken off snapping where the screws attach the handle and the lid. The lid is now wedged in firmly to the body of the kettle and can't be removed to descale or clean the filter. Disappointing as given the price it should last longer. 12 September 2014
Nice, but noisy. This is a really stylish kettle. It looks great. We have the blue one. It is fairly quick to boil, but it is the most noisy kettle that I have ever heard. No kidding, it is really noisy. It gets 4*'s because it looks great. If it was not so stylish, it would get 2*. 09 September 2014
broken lid I have had this kettle for 1 year and the lid has become increasingly tighter over the last few months and now the handle on the lid has come off completely. This means the lid is tight shut and therefore I can no longer descale the kettle. I have seen from previous reviews that this is a common problem which has yet to be addressed by the manufacturer. I will be reluctant to buy any more of their products. I am returning the kettle to John Lewis for a refund. 18 August 2014
Water tastes vile! Bought the matching kettle and toaster set. The kettle looks amazing but the water has a awful taste and smell when boiled. I phoned the Breville help line and I was advised to soak bicarbonate of soda in water overnight. I did it twice and still the water tastes and smells bad.Unfortunately both will have to be returned even though I like the toaster as I want a matching set 08 July 2014
Broken handle We were happy with this kettle until the handle came off after 10 months of use. Leading up to this the lid began to get tighter and more difficult to remove. A number of other reviewers have had the same problem so hopefully by now the manufacturers are aware of the design fault. It was no problem exchanging the kettle at John Lewis. 08 July 2014
