Breville VKJ318 Hot Cup
I purchased a Breville Hot Cup and have found it extremely useful. However, I purchased another for a family member and it has leaked since it was purchased.

Breville Hot Cup
I bought this item as I have arthritis in my hands. After many years of difficulty with conventional kettles, this is a godsend. I would highly recommend it to anyone with manual dexterity problems. Unfortunately, there is not a great awareness of this product by mobility aids specialists.
Thanks John Lewis for an excellent product and first class service. The item was delivered in two days, less than the 5 days specified!

Style over substance
we returned the item after a few days, when we realised you could only boil enough for one cup at a time - truly a useless invention.
Just buy a normal kettle if you have a household of more than 1 person and fill it up to the '1 cup' line - no rocket science needed!

Couldn't live without it!
I think this is a brilliant product. I can't believe what a difference it makes. It takes a while to get used to the cup size settings especially if you use a wide variety of cups.
I use bottle water with low calcium so I don't get any lime scale.
It's perfect for a two person household.
I like how it looks and I don't find it too noisy.

Gives me independence!
I am unwell with fluctuating energy levels, and muscle weakness. I struggled with even a travel size kettle and winter is coming.... This Breville One Cup Kettle fills the gap.
I love that my carer can fill the tank and then leave me to just dispense hot water when I feel like it - with a 2 litre capacity, that's enough for lots of cups of tea!
The buttons for hot water and 'stop' are not too stiff, and large enough not to miss/ satisfyingly chunky.
The 9 'portion' sizes go from approx 200ml to 330ml (with 260ml in the middle) - though not in regular increments which is disappointing.
I was a little concerned that if I had visitors or needed more hot water for say cooking pasta or making soup, that the 330ml single dose would limit the usefulness of the kettle, but it is capable of reboiling the next measure sufficiently fast that I think it would work for that too - but I don't think it would be a practical sole means of heating water for a large number of people if you cook a lot.
The size of it is around 28cm long, 18cm wide (ie about as long, but narrower than, a piece of A4 paper) and 27cm high.
The distance from nozzle to driptray is about 13cm, From nozzle to worktop (driptray is easy to take off) is about 17cm - so my 1 litre measuring jug fits underneath really easily if I wanted to fill something bigger.
The empty tank unit weighs about 1.7kg, and 3.5kg when full - but it's easy to fill using a jug due to the wide tank opening.
It's not so easy to empty, you need to turn the unit a few times to empty the pipes, and water comes back into the tank and also out through the nozzle.
It's noisier than a normal kettle and slightly alarming at first, but the water flow is good and not 'splashy'. I feel safe using it.
Only time will tell whether the build quality is any good, and I have seen the other reviews talking about manufacturing faults - then again John Lewis are excellent on returns, so it'll be inconvenient rather than fatal.

purchased this a few months ago, initially it worked well but extremely noisy!!
The kettle seems to choose for itself how much water to deliver, sometimes It will stop part way through then start again and over flow the cup, which in my estimation is dangerous.
It is a good idea though, if it worked! perhaps mine is a one off ?????

Extremely Short Useful Life
The lid on the Hot Cup failed to close after 2 months. It is impossible to descale properly and now our water tastes terrible. The quantity it now dispenses at the highest setting does not even fill a tea cup. We have to use it twice to fill our small mugs! I have just tried descaling it again but it is tripping the fuse board. You can not boil quantities of water to cook pasta, boil potatoes etc. Back online to buy something useful that works!

read reviews and bought this product for my parents but was not suitable they use small china tea cups and when they put the cups under there is a big gap between top of cup and the spout the water comes out the hot water splashes out all over so had to return would be fine if you use tall mugs
