I had to purchase this kettle after my last Breville Brita kettle of 7 yrs finally gave up (the one with the keep warm function) I was gutted as I loved that kettle & thought finding a replacement was going to be difficult. I was torn between this one & the stainless steel version but due to not wanting finger print marks showing - I opted for this one.
At first I thought it wasn't going to live up to my last kettle with not having the keep warm function - but I was pleasantly surprised. As promised it gives you clean crisp filtered hot drinks - no scum or lime scale in sight or taste - which in a hard water area is difficult to achieve!
I love the swivel base - allowing for left & right handed users without the awkwardness & it has the name & measurements on both sides - never making it look back to front or round the wrong way - as there is no wrong way round!
For me this is the perfect replacement - however if you are a large family who all want a hot drink at the same time then maybe this isn't for you. To allow for the maxi filter it takes up a lot of room inside only allowing for realistically 3 large drinks at once.
Also having the added bonus of 2yr cover with buying from JL then what are you waiting for!

My Dad bought one and really rated it, so I followed suit.
It makes the tea taste much better as the water is filtered and gives a nice display of colours for 20 minutes after.
I am really pleased with it and click and collect is so easy with John Lewis.

I bought my kettle about 3 years ago and it is the best filter kettle I have ever bought. At time time I thought it was very expensive for a kettle but I wanted to enjoy nice filtered cups of tea and coffee without needing an additional filter jug cluttering the kitchen. I also really love the light display. When the filter runs out I always descale the kettle before replacing it with a fresh filter. I am very happy with the quality and I feel it has lasted and was worth the purchase.
My parents bought a similiar Breville kettle for a fraction of the cost. However, their kettle was made much more cheaply and it didn't last more than a year. I am now currently looking into buying them this kettle as a replacement for their worn knock off version.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kneeboy Looks great, but...
We've just thrown out our second Breville Spectre. We love the look and the filtering, however the design flaw is in the lid. The build up of lime scale is one issue, but the button to open the lid eventually fails. This means that opening the lid to refill the kettle is annoying and painful! Shame.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LittleBeam Very heavy, low capacity, but filtering is useful
We live in a very hard water area and bought this as a solution to constant kettle descaling and/or using a separate filter jug to fill the kettle. It does reduce, although not completely eliminate, the need for descaling.
The filtering is a good feature but as a consequence the kettle has a fairly small capacity as the filter unit takes up a lot of space inside the kettle. If we have visitors I often end up having to fill and boil twice in order to make enough cups of tea. It's also very heavy to use, it feels like it's full of water even when it's nearly empty. The kettle is permanently illuminated, either in blue when not in use, or red when boiling. I find this an annoying feature and of little practical use.
It's solidly made but after 2 years a few issues have emerged:
The top of the handle where the lid is hinged has become loose and becomes slightly detatched from the main handle from the pressure of the lid popping up. This can allow scalding steam to escape unless you press it back down when you close the lid. You cannot spout fill this kettle due to the filter unit, so the lid is in heavy use.
The connection between the kettle and the base has become a little erratic and it sometimes has to be taken off and replaced several times before it connects and is ready for use.
There are quite a lot of annoying joins and details on the lid and body for limescale and dirt to build up.
Overall the filtering is very useful but there are quite a lot of compromises with this kettle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Ramsey56 Water tastes tainted
This is our 3rd purchase of this kettle...we had been happy with the previous ones...
but something has changed.
The water smells and tastes tainted and the underside of the lid appears to be the culprit as it smells horribly plastic even after 3 weeks of constant use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fimelle Great kettle for tea drinkers
This is our second one of these kettles and it is even better than the first! We are in a very hard water area and the filtering makes all the difference with tea. Boils speedily and looks good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lolalou Very poor quality
This is our second Breville kettle and we only purchased if for a second time as we live in a hard water area. This kettle fell apart not long after the year guarantee was over. The lid stopped working and the overall quality is very poor. You're paying for the novelty and not for a good solid kettle.
