Q & As

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by So many options! Bought the 400 from John Lewis a few months ago. It's great. I use it to make denim cushions. The selection of stitches is great, and it has a really strong motor that makes easy work of my denim. Had some feet in the box that i didn't know what they were for - the Brother helpline were really useful and explained. 24 April 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very Disappointed Bought this as replacement for trusty 43 year old Brother machine that was eventually on it's last legs. I do not find the light sufficient and lifting up the top flap to thread/wind bobbin creates so much shadow I have to use a torch (used in the same location as my old machine). Winding the bobbin is fiddly and difficult to judge if the thread is correctly under the pretension disc and consequently considerable amounts of cotton have been wasted with incorrectly wound bobbins. Correct tension is difficult to achieve for stitches. A straight stitch foot is not supplied so I purchased one separately but it is very wide compared to the narrow straight foot of my old machine which made it easier on finer fabrics. I was perhaps at fault expecting a machine of this price to be of a similar standard to my old machine but instead it seems you are paying for the number of stitches and not the quality of stitches etc. Really regret purchasing this machine. 26 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic sewing machine I recently purchased this machine, and it is absolutely fantastic. It is easy to thread, and simple to use. Most importantly it stitches beautifully. It comes with a great selection of feet, accessories, and even a quilting table - so any sewing project can be tackled. I have been sewing for many years, and this is the best sewing machine I have ever owned. 28 September 2012
