Q & As

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8II Standard Lens 4.9 5 15 15
A great lens...but This lens is amazing and great value for the price. This is why I have given 5 stars. However I would pause for thought before buying this lens and consider the more expensive Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM (Product code: 82972604) before buying this lens. The more expensive lens gives far better depth of field, has quieter autofocus and is a far superior lens. This lens is still great value and a must for most people starting out in the SLR world, but if you can afford the better lens I would recomend trying both out and deciding if you can justify the f/1.4 lens price tag. 05 August 2014
Great little lens Does what it says on the tin. On an APS sensor acts as a mild telephoto (~80 mm) so is good for portraits. Good value, but feels a little "cheap", but that's not an issue really. The bokeh is quite harsh due to the 5 diaphragm aperture, so if you want a "professional" feeling lens, go for the f/1.4, you'll pay for it though! 28 January 2014
Great value lens We loved this lens from the first time we used it. Great for portrait photos and really good value. 13 July 2012
Excellent Lens at an affordable price! This lens is a must have for any owner of a Canon DSLR. Brilliant for low light photography thanks to the f/1.8. Excellent bit of kit for the price, cannot fault it. 09 July 2012
The Nifty Fifty This is a fast fixed focal length lens that can achieve great results. I found that using it at f1.8 gives soft images but stopping down to f4 and beyond gives sharp images from edge to edge. I tested it against the 18-55mm kit lens at 50mm using a wide variety of f stops and this lens came out on top by a mile everytime, as others have said previously this lens is a must have for your camera bag. 03 July 2012
Good Value. This lens has very good depth of field when videoing. It also creates beautiful pictures for photography. Well worth the price. 30 May 2012
Compact light and convenient Excellent for everyday use, although I really miss the zoom function on my old lens 04 April 2012
Prime Product At such an attractive price, this lens should always be in your camera bag. With its great low light and depth of field features, it is possible to achieve photographs which would otherwise be impossible to capture. One issue however is focusing. unfortunately it is not the quietest of lenses when utilising the autofocus system, nor is it the speediest. All aside however, this lens is fundamental to achieve great shots at a relatively low price 04 April 2012
