Canon’s updated EOS 70D DSLR is a powerful choice for any level of photographer. Capture the moment with stunning stills and create memorable home movies with Full HD video capture. Even fast moving action can be captured thanks to 7fps full resolution shooting, an advanced 19-point AF system and Canon’s unique Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology.

Key benefits:

  • The high performance EOS 70D combines a 20.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and a powerful DIGIC 5+ image processor to deliver 14-bit images that are packed with detail and clarity. Colours are reproduced accurately while tonal gradation is subtle and natural.

  • Capturing superb shots of fast paced action like sports or wildlife is easy with 7fps full resolution continuous shooting and a high performance 19 cross-type point AF System, which provides high precision, responsiveness and accuracy to capture the moment with high image quality.

  • The EOS 70D is the first camera to feature Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, enabling fast and smooth autofocus tracking while shooting movies. Each pixel features two photo diodes that can be read independently during autofocus or together to capture the image.

  • The EOS 70D delivers stunning Full HD video with fast accurate autofocus thanks to Canon’s unique Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. Explore your creativity with stereo sound, full manual control and selectable frame rates.

  • Shoot remotely from alternative viewpoints: connect and control your EOS 70D using your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. Images can be reviewed and transferred wirelessly and instantly shared with family and friends.

  • When light levels fall, the EOS 70D keeps performing. It offers an ISO range of up to 12800 – expandable to 25600 – so you can capture superb handheld shots in low light without using flash.

  • Use the intuitive touch controls to shoot from unique or awkward angles with a 3-inch ClearView II LCD touch screen, which features 1,040,000 dots for high resolution playback. Switch to Live View mode to capture the best angle and to help compose your shot.

  • Enjoy a larger, more magnified field of view using the intelligent viewfinder which offers 98% coverage, relaxed viewing with a 22mm eyepoint and displays useful shooting information and an electronic level to help you capture the best shot.

  • Preserve detail in both highlights and shadows with the EOS 70D’s high dynamic range (HDR) feature, and create composite images with its multiple-exposure facility. Enhance your stills with a range of Creative filters such as Toy camera effect or Miniature.

  • The EOS 70D is compatible with Canon’s full range of EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites so you can progress your photographic skills with additional lenses and flashes.

  • Includes eyecup, camera cover, wide strap, battery, charger and interface cable.

Feeling creative?

One of the biggest advantages of this camera is the sheer shooting flexibility on offer. You can use additional lenses to take wide-angle, telephoto, or close-up shots to suit just about any situation. The shorter the focal length (measured in mm), the wider the view will be – the longer the focal length, the more telescopic the picture. With a selection of interchangeable lenses at your disposal, the creative possibilities are endless.

Why not take a look at our range of additional lenses?

Note: Please check the compatibility of the lens with your camera.

Q & As

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Upgrade from 600D My 600D has been around the clock a few times, but I delayed buying this until the price dropped far enough. In the event, John Lewis turned out to be £50 cheaper than Amazon. The camera also exceeded my expectations. All the reviews seemed to assume upgrade from 60D and involved comparisons with the 7D, so I was completely unprepared for the dramatic improvement in ergonomics as compared to the "00D series". Everything is easier to change - aperture, focus point, exposure compensation, etc. and so you work faster and can't help getting better shots. Never thought I'd say that. 19 January 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow camera Bought this camera to replace Canon 550D. Wanted the yet to be released Canon 750D it this not available until March 2015? So plumbed for Canon 70D So pleased with this camera. Lots of features which has reignited my enthusiasm for photography. Can't wait to use it on my next holiday. 18 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Professional camera at enthusiast pricing I had been looking out to try this new fast-focus camera, and had my own older one with me so I could compare the two with the same lens in-store. The JLP advisor was helpful and located both memory card and battery to ensure the display model could be tried. When I questioned the display, he was happy to fire up a second camera to compare (I thought the battery display was incomplete) and show they were the same. Despite the body feeling heavier, the camera is easy to hold, and not that much more complicated than the enthusiast level 700 D. The 70D retains the touchscreen, and swivel display benefits of its older brothers. It has the advantage of WiFi connectivity which was easily set up with both a PC and iPad, and the iPad/iPhone control app is easy to use. Autofocus feels quicker than the older model, but of course the body accepts all the lenses bought previously, so is a step up from the 700D and two steps up from my 600D. Finer ability to select intermediate ISO (sensitivity) values, and colour temperature on the white balance in degrees Kelvin, plus built in HDR and a Custom setting that retains your favourite set-up are all features I seem to use. I have not had a chance to exercise the Video capabilities, as the 70D was bought for stills photography, but understand from other online reviews that this area is also very good, allowing faster focussing while filming. So far I have been very satisfied with the camera, and would recommend it to an advanced enthusiast - it may have too many options and settings for someone who just wants to point and shoot - though there is an Automatic mode which even makes that possible, but would recommend the camera as good value for money. 14 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A big step forward This really is a superb camera. When using live-view the focusing is so much faster. The small LCD info screen on the top of the camera proves to be so useful when wanting to quickly change settings. The camera is fast at 7fps, really great if you want to catch that all important moment. The clarity of the pictures is great. I find the touch screen very useful, Canon claim that the screen is smear resistant, I was surprised that it is pretty good at resisting smears. The 19 focus points make for very accurate focusing and the flexibility of grouping focus points is very useful. The camera has a built in level which can display on the screen or through the viewfinder which makes it easy to get that landscape picture perfectly level. The camera also features Wi-Fi that with the correct App allows you to view pictures taken on a tablet computer, it also allows you remote control of the camera from a tablet computer. 22 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressive focusing. I purchased the 70D as a replacement to my 50D, the most noticable improvement is in the focusing, really impressive. Another great feature with the 70D is the ability to video, an excellent addition. 08 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Canon 70D We purchased one of these recently and wow, what a great camera for video work, while the photo's easily match those from our 7D. We got an STM lens for the camera and this does make a difference with focus over our other stock lens which is a Tamron 18-270, though we do not have the latest PZD version. Software is good, but we use the stock Apple software and ADOBE Premier for editing as we have had it for a couple of years. The partner who served us couldn't have been more helpful and it wasn't even his department, but that is why you shop at JL. 30 May 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by canon eos70d The box is not properly sealed with just a small little circular piece of plastic which expands in heat. The goods could be returned and the retailer could sell this to another customer. Canon should sort this security seal so you know you are getting a brand new camera. The software to put photos from the camera to the computer had problems. 15 January 2014
