Q & As

Canon Pixma MG6450 Wireless All-In-One Printer, White 3.3 5 4 4
A step forward The printer has all the capabilities exactly as described. It was very straightforward to set up and a vast improvement on our old model. I don't know why we tolerated a lower standard and resisted updating for so long. It looks good too. 29 June 2014
Prints well but irritates The printer generally performs well but has some irritations. The first is that sometimes when I am scanning documents it will only scan the first three pages. Second, the output tray is too small so A4 prints always fall off even with the extension out, this is really poor design. And thirdly, it does not save connection information, so if you have a power outage or turn off the power, you have to go through the hole connection rigmarole again. 19 June 2014
Great prints and scans for an all in one I bought this printer a few weeks back to replace an aging 10 year old HP printer! The printer out the box came with a starter ink set and power cable, shame it didn't come with the USB A to USB B cable..however its the same cable that the old HP used. Installation was a doodle with my mac, you do have to download the driver from canon's website though, not a problem nowadays with fast broadband, windows was easy with the provided cdrom The wireless networking was easy to set up to on the printer, theres two routes you can take to connect to your router, either the wifi key or wps key, I used the former which is a little cumbersome as you're forced to use just a directional keys to find the letters and numbers, after that its pretty much plug and play with the router. It's a nifty little printer that lets you print things from more than just a conventional computer, it lets you print from iOS and Android devices too (I'm not sure about Windows Phone 8) I tested out my ipad to print to the canon as the printer is a certified Apple Air Print device. it was easy to set the ipad and print, i got it to print a document within a minute of setting it up, i also downloded the pixma app for my android phone to print to the printer. So to sum up, the Canon MG6450 is an excellent printer and scanner either standalone or connected up to the wifi network as a family printer, it has so far rewarded me with great prints and no technical problems! Reasons why its "Good" rather than "Excellent" is because the printer is a little noisy and the build quality does feel a little plasticky..other than its a great printer! 12 February 2014
Very poor product Not what you'd expect from Canon but this is a poor example of their products. I had a Canon Engineer (onsite for a different job) look at this. Its important to note this is a Wifi NOT network printer. Canons explanation not mine A sublte difference but it cant be setup as a network device on a standard IP port and then shared. It has to be a proprietory Canon port. It took many attempts to get it to find a network and as soon as it was moved to a different area using a different WAP, but on the same network it needed to be setup again. You can set a fixed IP address as you would normally for a networked printer on a server queue but this is not saved if the power is ever removed. Scan to PC works but there's no option to set or ammend where the scan goes and it changes randomly sending files where it likes, or failing if it finds access permissons blocking it. HP's offerings are far better in this respect It may well be a fine printer for single users prepared to install loads of software on their machines, and have almost constant data streaming back to Canon in which case the USB link would be fine but for any networked application its a poor and unconventional in its setup. All that said it still retains Canon's quality of print with bright sharp acurate colour rendition -on decent paper that is. And its reasonable value bar the fact its supplied with the very irritating half filled "starter" cartridges, why not just supply full ones. Big plus point though; it has a built in power supply, no power supply brick hanging out off the mains cable. If you have relatively simple needs and hours to spend setting it up it'll give good results but there are better printers out there 09 January 2014
