Cath Kidston Ltd was founded in 1993 when she opened a tiny shop in London’s Holland Park. She began by selling the vintage fabrics, wallpapers and brightly-painted junk furniture she remembered fondly from her childhood. Her clever, witty re-working of traditional English country house style meant that her shop soon became a cult success.

Gradually Cath began to design her own prints and products. The product base has expanded steadily to include an extensive range of homewares as well as women’s fashion and accessories and the 2008 launch of the Cath Kids brand.

Today the brand is synonymous with quirky prints and patterns, for everything from clothing and accessories to mobile phone cases and crockery.

Appalling quality control The stripes are lovely. The cotton fabric excellent, and stays nice and crisp after washing, rather than becoming limp, but does need ironing while a little damp if you want it to look ironed. However the measurements are skimped everywhere, a supposedly 230x220cm cover measured 214x213cm! Pillowcases are less wide at one end than the other, i.e. tapered at one end, the seams are twisted, and the inner flap is so mean it hardly covers the pillow (this applies to all 4 that I have!) 22 February 2013

Excellent quality So pleased with the Bon Bon striped duvet covers. I have other Cath Kidson bedding and found that although they need a hot iron they wash well and look lovely on the beds. Very bright and fresh. 27 October 2012

Very disappointing quality Was very excited waiting for my new cath kidston bedding. I washed and ironed it to put on the bed straight away, it was very difficult to iron , and the material didn't line up correctly on the pillowcases, stitching was very poor, not what you would expect from this highly respected retailer. 26 May 2012

Badly Made Whilst the colours and the look and style are typical Cath Kidson, the fabric and the making are not. Very badly put together and after first wash and iron this became very apparent. The fabric angles were poor causing a twisting and therefore very difficult to iron. The cotton is not great and is a much poorer quality than i expected. The Pillowcases are even worse, completely badly made and shoddily put together no angle to iron correctly at all, must have been badly cut to start with. Great shame and a blot on the Kidson copybook. 24 March 2012
