Q & As

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Celestron 130EQ - Very nice! The telescope is very cool, although not the easiest to get used to if not familiar with the EQ mount- (youtube helped lots!) The motor drive is a bad design though. It does not seem to move the telescope, and it gets in the way of moving it manually - so I removed my motor, and its now a manual scope, with the fine-tuning handles. Very nice looking, well worth the money - but don't buy the MD version, save some cash and buy without! 14 July 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for novice with patience Bought for my dads 60th birthday, it took him a while to set it up as he'd never actually seen a telescope before. He seems to really enjoy it, he's looked at the moon & stars. It's great if you've got the patience. 04 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Let Down Returned. Arrived with scratches and finger marks on mirror 05 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good for the price Very good telescope. We were able to see the rings of Saturn. Amazing. Great service from John Lewis as usual 24 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ-MD Telescope Lovely machine - easy to use for my grandson. Very easy to assemble. 14 January 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by faulty Purchased online delivered next day, so far so good, started to assemble only to find the latitude adjusting bolt would not fit. Was very disappointed but in true John Lewis style a replacement is being sent next day. Fingers crossed all is well, cant fault the service. 11 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Telescope is brilliant! Was an xmas gift to my boyfriend and we finally got it out last night as we had been waiting on a clear night. Was absolutely brilliant! We saw Jupiter and it's moons. Great product, would recommend. 09 January 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great once you understand it As a complete novice, astronomy is not the easiest subject to get into and setting this up took a little patience and background reading to understand the terminology as the manual, while attempting to be helpful, included a lot of jargon I didn't understand. There were also a few minor issues with it - one of the counter balance weights had something wedged inside which I managed to dislodge with a bit of brute force with a screwdrive to allow it to fit. I also can't quite setup the alignment scope - I've got it nearly there but the freedom of movement with the adjustment screws isn't enough. Minor irritaitions as you can work round them. It also comes with a motor but I've no real idea what or how I'm supposed to use it so I recommend getting a decent beginners guide at the same time as the material with the telescope doesn't help get you into the subject. But once you have it set up and you look at something like the moon on a clear night... the quality is great for a first Telescope. 28 November 2012
