The celebrations might be over – but your partywear needn’t be

Chances are your sequin party dress or velour jumpsuit didn't get too much of an airing this Christmas. But rather than relegate these short-lived party pieces to the back of your wardrobe (where they'll be forgotten until the next birthday party or celebration, whenever that might be) keep the festive spirit alive by wearing them to spruce up your video calls and the everyday dreariness that is January. Obviously you don't want to look like a leftover Christmas cracker, but with this guide, you won't.

Keep your heels on standby

Socks with sandals shouldn’t be mocked – so long as the latter are chunky and opulent. Perfect for keeping toes warm amid freezing temperatures, try a fine sock with cropped trousers and a pair of culottes for a spirited alternative to winter boots. And you could go one step further by fulfilling your new year's resolution of being more crafty by knitting your own

Just add denim

You can always rely on denim to dial down a piece of partywear. Case in point below: lace and a jean jacket. Throw one - or its new sister style, the 'overshirt' - over a silky slip dress or a luxe camisole (not forgetting tights for that cosy factor) and you’ve got an eclectic, smart-casual look.

Have yourself an ear party

Bring costume jewellery into the fold by promoting beaded earrings and cocktail rings to everyday wear. An ideal way to inject a touch of sparkle to a bleak January day, you can count on a spot of unexpected bling to elevate a video call.

Keep up your hair game

Don’t wait for the next big night out to adorn your hair with pretty embellishments. Even if all you're doing is shuffling about in your newest slippers, a couple of clips hits just the right note of playfulness when worn in conjunction with your cosiest, slouchiest knitwear.

Keep up with fun hair accessories

Layer lustrous dresses

Granted, anything metallic can scream ‘after-hours fun’, but when worn in combination with chunky boots, a heat-generating rollneck or layered under this season's must-have, the sleeveless jumper, your party dress instantly becomes a covetable daywear option.
