Make this Christmas really special, with quick and easy crafting ideas for decorations, cards and more…

Add a handmade touch to your home and your gifting this year with easy ideas that take an afternoon or less. Raid your crafting stash, looking for fabric, yarn, twine, pompoms, ribbon and other goodies, that you can utilise in our projects. Get kitted out with the right tools – paper and fabric scissors, glue or sticky pads, and a protective mat for your table.

How to make a pompom wreath

Make your own wreath

Handmade wreaths don’t have to mean armfuls of fresh foliage and florist’s foam. Instead, use an embroidery hoop as your base, which can either be covered with fabric or twine, or left au naturele. Kit yourself out with fabric scraps, pompoms, twine, decorations and a hot glue gun. Go for fun brights or keep things more Scandi in style with a muted palette.

Thread a bauble garland

Got an abundance of baubles? Why not string them onto a wide-width ribbon for a glittering garland? Mix size and finish, adding small multi-pack ones to complete your length. Hang your finished bauble garland from a hook, lay flat along your dining table for an easy centrepiece idea or secure to your banister – just make sure the ends are firmly knotted.

Give your own-design cards

Fancy a festive crafternoon? Then make a few quick-and-easy cards that recipients will love. Raid your sequin and button boxes, and use them to create simple patterns on blank cards (or pieces of glittery card that you’ve cut and folded yourself). If you need more inspiration, then why not use Christmas cookie cutters to give you alternative outlines that you can then decorate.

Create a space for cards

Upcycle an old picture or mirror frame, creating a stylish place to display Christmas cards. Carefully remove any glass or backing and paint the frame if needed – or keep distressed for a more vintage look. Use LED fairy lights to create zig-zags, taping securely in place on the frame’s reverse. Peg on cards and tie baubles to complete your card display.

Be creative with wrapping

Make the wrap part of the gift, using fabric. The art of Furoshiki wrapping is big news this Christmas, thanks to its eco-friendly credentials. Furoshiki are traditional Japanese cloths used to transport food, clothes or gifts – but you can use any fabric, from napkins to silk scarves. Sign up for one of our online Furoshiki workshops and learn a new skill.
