Q & As

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 34 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is my type of grinding! A great addition to my gadget collection and a must for coffee lovers. The variable grind is useful given that some will prefer a more mellow brew while others can max out on their caffeine fix. The generous hopper ensures that you'll never go short! If you love coffee you'll love this. 01 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The way to start the day We have bought three of these - two for ourselves and one as a house-warming for a friend. Each morning we go to the kitchen, press a button, the blades whir and the great smell of coffee fills the room. This is a good design and the guarantee that comes with it demonstrates Cuisinart's confidence in its product. When something went wrong with the first grinder, Cuisinart replaced with new without a quibble. Steve Jobs used to send his Apple staff to look at this firm's products. He liked style combined with performance. Good thinking - but he didn't influence us. We'd bought before we read the Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson. We would buy again without hesitation. But, please, grind when you need it. It is just seconds to wait 17 November 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Well made, poor grinder This is a decent product, but although it calls itself a 'burr grinder' it is not a proper conical burr. Unlike professional grinders, the burr is flat and spins very fast, giving an uneven grind (think lots of dust for a coarse cafetiere grind) and heating up the coffee too much as it grinds, leaving oily coffee residue. 10 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cuisinart DBM8U Burr Coffee Grinder We have no issues with this machine. It grinds the coffee to exactly the right consistency. It take sup little counter space. Plus we find it easy to clean. It has been one of our better purchases.. 26 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very Good Grinder A great machine for grinding spices(dried garlic, caraway seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper corn etc...". Like others have said, the grind is not very fine, but for spices it's ok. The machine is well built and John Lewis and staff are EXCELLENT as usual. 30 March 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Won't grind espresso grade I should have read the reviews before I bought this. If you're interested in espresso this is not the grinder for you, even though Cuisinart say it will do the job. No reason to doubt it's good for other courser grinds. John Lewis were great at refunding my money pronto, which I'll spend on something else I need from JL, all credit to their excellent customer service. 19 March 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Well made and still going strong after 6 years I bought one of these from JL in 2007 and it is still working fine. I'm no coffee snob so can't comment on whether it goes 'fine enough for espresso' but for use in the filter coffee machine at work it does just fine. I agree with the comment someone else made that the plastic receptacle develops extraordinary amounts of static so you have to scrape the coffee from the sides. I also disagree with the description which says that it 'grinds the beans evenly and quietly' - evenly maybe but quietly? No chance, it makes one heck of a noise. I said above that I am not a coffee snob and I will qualify that by saying that my favourite beans to date are Starbucks regular - very nice. 09 January 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not good enough for espresso machines I purchased this on the strength of the reviews despite a few of the reviewers feeling that it doesn't grind coffee fine enough for espresso. They are correct - it doesn't. Even on the finest grind the coffee is not fine enough to use in my Gaggia machine which is my preferred method of making my coffees. I really should have returned the item but I ordered it prior to my holiday and by the time I returned and gave it another go I had had it in my possession for over two weeks. 15 October 2013
