Cuisinart DGB900BCU Grind and Brew
My favourite toy!
This is a brilliant machine. Works especially well with Starbucks coffee. Italian, espresso brands tend not to work so well.
So long as you clean it regularly it runs fine.
I don't understand why having to turn the jug ' nearly upside down to pour' is of any issue as some reviews state this. When you're down to the last drops of coffee, you just remove the lid and pour easily.
Best machine I've ever had.

Instruction leaflet could be made easier to understand and you may have to adjust quantities of coffee and/or water to taste but other than that we are enjoying perfect coffee made from a professional machine, along with great service from JL.

Im on to my 3rd one now !
Looks great and makes a fine coffee, but it will break down !!!! The first two lasted just under a year then they stop grinding. Were the beans are ground is quite hard to clean out so I'm guessing that a build up of coffee cause the grinder to shear.I cleaned it out after the hopper was empty EVERY TIME which is a lot more then cuisinart recommend.Great customer service from JLP every time.

Coffee was muddy with a lot of grounds left in the cup, despite swirling the coffee in the jug as instructed. Coffee also tasteless despite using the same Lavazza beans as we used in our old machine. We tried all strength settings & even tried ready ground coffee but with no improvement. Difficult to pour from the jug, it needs to be almost upside down if you make only 4 cups. Such a shame as it is very good looking and the large capacity was exactly what we were looking for. Definitely a case of style over substance. Don't know if it was faulty or we're especially fussy but fortunately John Lewis accepted it back.

Fun but complicated
Larger than I expected so needs to be moved from under cupboards before filling. Takes some time to understand instructions and to fit together. Does not grind enough coffee so need to add ground as well. Fiddly to clean. Noisy and takes several minutes to make what it calls 7 cups - actually about 3 mugs. Quality of coffee good and keeps hot for some time, but not long enough for before and after golf! Probably better than old vacuum filter machine but hope it lasts as long...

Many thanks to excellent JL customer service that is second to none; quick, polite and highly organised.
First machine from JL busted after the grinder just refused to function, within 48 hours. The replacement did the same thing a few weeks after receipt. Coffee not the best in taste, even though sublime Lavazza used plus the process was messy and mechanical with lots of handwork before ready to grind. In my opinion there was only one reason for failure; rubbish quality grinder. There cannot be any other reason. The new replacement, hopefully the last, the Philips equivalent, is so far much superior, a lot less messy (does not flood the kitchen!) and makes superior filter coffee, using old fashioned filter papers. I would say the Cuisinart DGB900BCU Grind and Brew version has design flaws and is not recommended by me.

Very disappointing buy
The grinder part of the machine stopped working early on and we have ceased to use it as it so easily became blocked. The lid of the jug is extremely hard to remove. The machine frequently floods when we make several cups even though we do not exceed the limit. The jug does not keep the coffee nearly as hot as our previous thermos jug machine. We are now looking for a replacement and it certainly will not be thisbrand again

When my trusty old Braun filter coffee machine gave up the ghost after ten years of faithful service, I traipsed down to Juan Louis Oxford Street for a replacement.
I'd read some of the reviews on www.johnlewis.com, and I liked the look of the Cuisinart Grind and Brew, not least because it handles both ground and un-ground coffee (very helpful when you've sometimes been known to pick up the wrong type during a rushed weekly shop!)
In truth, I was somewhat disappointed when I got home, opened up the box and discovered that the one I'd been sold had already been used, and didn't work (top tip - open the box in the shop to make sure you've got a brand new one, and not a return!), but a quick trip back to Technical Support and I was soon walking away with a brand new replacement.
And even if it's not breakfast time anymore, and I've spent most of my Sunday in pursuit of my caffeine kick - as I write this review, I'm sitting drinking a perfectly delicious, freshly ground, freshly brewed, cup of coffee from my new Cuisinart - I find myself contented.
