Cuisinart DGB900BCU Grind and Brew
Had it 3 years, No problems yet!
As says above, I have had this product for 3 years and haven't had any problems with it. I love that it grinds the coffee beans automatically before brewing the coffee and the keep warm function is a handy addition. Very pleased.

cuisinart grind and brew
can only agree with the others - in fact one star is generous. I am on my 3rd machine [having returned each one to JL for replacement]. Initially thought , is it me...? But now the 3rd one has just failed. Each has failed within 3 months, 6 months and now 12 months. Same fault ie complete flood of coffee all over the place as for some reason it's not flowing through to the jug fast enough. By now I have checked and double checked the complicated instructions . I even bought new parts for the first one. This will be coming back to JL and I will be getting something else entirely. Meanwhile am back to my top of the stove job.

We have other Cuisinart products that work perfectly, so this Grind & Brew is a major disappointment.
I did reference the many reviews posted on this site and discussed them with the salesperson at John Lewis Oxford St. before buying.
With her recommendation - a vigilant cleaning regime - and the 3 year warranty, I took a gamble.
31 days later, it looks like I lost as the water pump mechanism has failed and the machine is broken.
I will be returning this product and wouldn't recommend it to other customers until Cuisinart improve the engineering/manufacturing.
John Lewis should consider withdrawing the product until it is proven to be reliable.

I've owned this machine for 3 weeks now and have used it once a day to brew various quantities of coffee. I love being able to make coffee straight from the bean. Setting the machine to operate automatically in the morning fills the house with a lovely aroma, and the noise of the grinder doubles as an alarm clock!
The instructions could be clearer, but in operation the machine is actually very simple, with dials to select quantity and strength of the coffee, and separate buttons to either start straightaway or come on at a set time in the morning.
The machine makes up to 12 cups of coffee at once, but it's worth remembering that these are 'cups', i.e. not large mugs, so if you drink a lot of coffee you'll need to bear that in mind. Having said that, the coffee is so nice and strong that I have started to enjoy it in smaller quantities anyway.
Cleaning is very simple. It's slightly more time-consuming than cleaning out a cafetiere but less messy because the grinds are caught in the filter. All the bits can be put in the dishwasher too. Once a week you need to clean out the bean hopper which is a 5 minute job and a small brush is provided. It's worth taking time to read the instructions here as it has useful tips like keeping it dry to avoid blockages.
The thermal jug keeps the coffee hot for a long time but the design means you need to tip it up disconcertingly far to get the last drops out. They also recommend giving the coffee a stir or shake to redistribute the stronger coffee that settles at the bottom of the jug.
Overall I'm really pleased with the product and would definitely recommend it.

Jack of all, master of none.
There seems to be a couple of fundamental problems with this appliance so I can't recommend it.
I wanted the convenience of a days worth of coffee (I drink a lot of it), from freshly roasted beans, without much hassle.
What I got instead was the convenience of a days worth of coffee, from pre-ground coffee, without much hassle.
As usual with most devices that try to do everything for everyone, it fails to do anything particularly well.
To cut to the chase, if you grind beans with this device you might find yourself with some problems.
The steam/condensation from the brewing process is able to get up into the grind chute. If it doesn't dry out before your next grind, you'll end up with a clogged mess.
Now, the "answer" is to clean it out every time you use it and let it dry, but that means you should really remove the hopper from the top as well and ultimately renders it pointless.
Fortunately, you can use pre-ground coffee.
This works OK, if a little weak and under flavoured unless you stack in more coffee grinds than you usually would.
Lastly, the design of the carafe is really quite annoying. It does keep coffee nice and warm for a long time (up to 12 hours in my experience) but it's really quite difficult to get the last cup full out without spilling it everywhere.
Since I'm beyond the returnable period, I'll probably have to eBay or gift/charity shop it which is a shame as it's only 2 months old.
In summary, this makes adequate coffee from pre-ground but for this price you can get the same results with a MUCH cheaper filter machine.
Perhaps my expectations were too grand.
I've bought a separate, proper burr grinder (Baratza Encore - the difference in flavour from this change alone is remarkable btw) and now I'm looking for a decent filter machine.

Failed six weeks out of guarantee!
Purchased in Jun 2011 and has produced good coffee every weekend. Just six weeks outside of guarantee it broke down. Noting similar issues posted on the internet, I remain unconvinced obsolescence has not been designed into this product and suggest JL investigate. A repeat purchase is unlikely, my cafetiere seems a more economic solution - which is a shame.

Whilst it worked, 6 months, okay!
Another expensive lesson learned! Wanted a coffee maker with thermal jug so bought this. Complicated, messy to use, breakdown regularly, definitely not built to be used four times a day. The cheaper versions make just as good coffee and ours lasted 11 years. Have replaced this with just such a model. Had similar experience with bread maker will now NOT Buy Cuisinart products!

My favourite toy!
This is a brilliant machine. Works especially well with Starbucks coffee. Italian, espresso brands tend not to work so well.
So long as you clean it regularly it runs fine.
I don't understand why having to turn the jug ' nearly upside down to pour' is of any issue as some reviews state this. When you're down to the last drops of coffee, you just remove the lid and pour easily.
Best machine I've ever had.
