Product information

These beautiful, natural mattress toppers add approximately 1.5 inches of extra comfort to you bed, in addition to being a wonderfully warming layer. They have a platinum British wool filling and a soft, 100% natural cotton flannel case.

The luxurious wool is unsullied by chemicals or bleach, and it does not require laundering - simply air once or twice a year.

Handmade in Devon by professional seamstresses using wool from pure breed flocks of Texel sheep, they are a natural alternative to a down filled duvet.

Devon Duvets wool duvets are a sustainable product, as the sheep are reared solely for their wool and return to the pasture after shearing.

The unique natural properties of wool resist dust mites. Wool is also naturally breathable, helping to regulate body temperature throughout the night, all year round.

Q & As

Soft and comfortable I bought one of these for each of my sons (aged 17 and 11). They both really like them and say they make the bed quite a lot softer. The oldest said it is very comfortable and doesn't flatten down too much when he sleeps on it. He thinks he is cooler in hot weather than before he got it. He would have liked it to be a bit thicker. I want one myself now! When money permits I will buy one. 15 July 2014
Wow! What a difference this has made. We were regularly waking up with pins and needles and stiff shoulders but this little beauty has put a stop to all that. We've put the king size topper (150x200) on top of our Ikea king size mattress (160x200) and although it obviously doesn't go quite to the edges, it works well. 08 July 2014
Best sleep ever Very comfortable, no more aching bones in the morning. I don't understand the comments about smell. As suggested by Devon Duvets, when I unpacked the topper I aired it for a few hours before putting it on the bed. Absolutely no smell at all. I only wish I had purchased one sooner. 09 May 2014
An expensive experiment I had to dispose of my king-sized topper because I found the smell so offensive. It was like sleeping in a farmyard. I tried airing it outside, which seemed to work at first, but when I brought it back indoors more sheep smell made its way out from the stuffing. My son has a single one for uni, and he says the filling has gone lumpy after only 2 months. I recommend you open the box and take a deep sniff before buying. 01 December 2013
Beautiful, comfortable and natural This is such a comfortable topper, no lumps and doesn't feel like you're laying on a duvet (like some other toppers feel like). Really nice to know where the product comes from too! 27 October 2013
Comfortable and warm I bought this to add some extra comfort to our mattress after sleeping in a hotel bed that had a micro fibre topper fitted. Not being a fan of the man made fibres, I opted for the wool one. This is lovely to sleep on and feels to warm the bed up quickly too, so much so, I have removed my electric blanket for the time being and will try and live without it. I also bought the heavier weight duvet and standard pillow. Both are really nice. 15 October 2013
Excellent I chose this because I have had real difficulty sleeping recently due to an old, but still pretty much perfect, firmish latex mattress just seeming harder as I'm getting older. I was tossing and turning all night and waking up with neck and shoulder pain every morning. There's nothing wrong with the mattress so looked at mattress toppers. I read all the reviews carefully first. I chose the Devon wool version because while I thought it might not be quite as good as feather/goose down types from a sink-in comfort point of view, I just couldn't bring myself to buy those from an animal welfare point of view, so it was a no-brainer for me and this was the obvious choice. I'm thrilled with it. It isn't sink-inable comfort, more a soft but still firmish comfort that's supportive but incredible cosy too. It's absolutely excellent from a body temperature regulation too, and really contributes to a good night's sleep. I've used it for about a week and haven't had any shoulder or neck pain since. It was a good fit, doesn't move about on the bed at all and I didn't recognise one of the reviewer's criticisms that it had uncomfortable seams - this wasn't my experience at all. Although my cats could clearly smell something at first, I don't notice any sheep type smell at all. I'm thrilled with it and immediately ordered the duvet and will leave a separate review for that. My only criticism is that I have just discovered this company do an organic version - please stock it John Lewis. I would have paid the extra for it. 11 September 2013
lovely product but NOT washable I chose this mattress topper as a gift for my daughter to give her some home comforts at university. I didn't want to buy a synthetic topper so chose this wool one rather than any of the feather toppers purely because according to the JL website it was washable at 30 degrees. I was therefore horrified to see on the product label that "spot cleaning only" is advised and the product is definitely NOT washable. I am very disappointed because it was expensive and although it is a lovely product, if you think your mattress topper is likely to need washing, this is NOT the one to buy. 30 August 2013
