Q & As

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lovely table but missing some bolt holes We bought this table (and the bench) in time for Christmas so we can fit everyone in. It's a beautiful piece of furniture, the oak finish is very smooth and it feels (and looks) like a quality piece of furniture. Unlike some of the other reviews our table arrived without damage and all of the joints line up nicely. However when I was assembling it one of the supports where you bolt the legs in was missing two pre-drilled bolt holes. This was very frustrating as it is a basic QA check and was obviously wrong. Due to the pressures of getting it up for Christmas I relented and drilled the holes (carefully!) myself, and all was fine. I would have expected better from JL though. I will be investing in some of the white oil mentioned in other comments to treat the table and the bench. So far so good! 22 December 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not the great quality I was expecting This is our second table as the first was damaged. I'm not too pleased with this either as the two halves don't meet up flush along the join. (The first one did!) I think a small knock would damage the veneer. I feel the table is overpriced for the quality and wish I had bought the famous U.K. brand that offers a similar look. I've done lots of research about how to look after it so feel quite confident regarding that. 19 October 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing We were delighted with the overall look of this table - very stylish and just what we were looking for. But we are hugely disappointed on two counts: Firstly, the table has started to crack in the joints in three places; Secondly, the table stains so easily, every mark shows. There doesn't seem to be any kind of protective coating on the wood. It's a great table for short-term use but we have now had ours for less than 6 months and it is starting to look worn and tired. Such a shame. 22 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stylish dining table Very pleased with the table. Simple to construct, took me no longer than 20 minutes. The only thing to be aware of is that the table top stains very easily…currently looking for a product to protect without effecting the matt/untreated-style finish. Usual great JL service with delivery. 03 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent table! Unfortunately, the first two tables that arrived were damaged but it was third time lucky for us, (excellently handled by John Lewis as usual). This table is beautiful and does not take up too much room because of its slim profile. It is very easy to extend - 2 clips each side release the halves of the table and the extension leaf is stored beneath them, suspended on a frame. It is simple to lift out the leaf, turn it and replace it between the halves. One warning - it marks quite easily but can be washed with a damp cloth. We are very careful with our wine glasses but I expect our caution will wear off in time! 28 January 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice-looking table, but ... The packaging is very good. The legs are easily attachable, and the instructions clear. Keeping the middle section still in place as per the instructions you turn the table over and stand it upright. Then what? There are no further instructions. The two main leaves won't separate. To release the central section requires unscrewing two bracing struts, and a second person holding the assembly before carefully lowering it to the floor. It is clear on examination that there are two struts on each side of each leaf which should slide past similar struts on the other leaf, but between each pair is another strut which, in the absence of bolts or screws, appears to be locked between them. It takes a brave person to try to pull the table apart in order to insert the extension. The fear of the whole thing collapsing is very real. The absence of any instruction about this is quite remiss. 14 January 2014
