Electrolux EXP12HN1WI Portable Air Conditioner, White
Powerful air conditioning
Its always the way. 2 weeks of scorching hot temperatures.
So I order an air conditioner.
By the time it arrived its turned cold!
So far I've therefore only had limited use - more to test it than anything.
But it seems quite powerful in cooling.
And the good thing is being a heater and dehumidifier as well it'll get use in the winter.
It is fairly noisy - only someone seriously hard of hearing could call it quiet!
The noise doesn't really trouble me but it may some people.
I like the fact it has a dust cover - a small thing but you really don't want a layer of dust on something that blows air out.
The manual is pretty poor - thankfully most things are fairly obvious with some trial and error.
Except one thing - the remote control.
I thought I had a faulty one as none of the buttons had any effect on the air conditioner - except the LED screen off/on button!
The manual was no help.
I discovered through trial and error that for the two to communicate you must firstly have the air conditioner off.
Then turn it on via the remote - not directly via the machine itself.
Doing this ensures the remote control operates the machine.
At some point I'm hoping for hot weather and I can actually properly use the machine.

This has saved my marriage!
This air conditioner has had a significant impact on reducing the temperature of my bedroom so much that my wife and myself can now sleep in the same bed without getting all hot and sticky during the warm summer months! In fact it is so good, the noise it makes drowns out the noise of her snoring.
In all seriousness, this is a very good machine, however the word ‘portable’ should be used loosely! This machine is extremely heavy and cumbersome. The lead used to plug it in to the wall socket isn’t very long, nor is the ventilation hose. This didn’t cause us too many problems, other than slightly restrict where we located it.
The air conditioner came supplied with a window fitting kit (which doesn’t fit a hinged window as per other reviews) and a cover to store it in which I thought was a nice touch.
This is an expensive machine, however for a good nights sleep during the hot summer months it is worth every penny!
The John Lewis service was excellent as always.

High quality product!
Really pleased with this air conditioner, made to a high spec and easy to control. Reaches cooling temp fast in my 8x6M room. Noise level is expected for this type of machine, but not too bad. Only gripe is that, as others have stated before, the 150mm x 1.5metre ducting hose is too short. It really needs to be 2.5 to 3 metres. I am having difficulty in finding a longer hose other than the soft plastic type which will sag too much.

Air conditioned bliss
Living in a modern super-insulated sun-lit flat is great in the winter however the summers are the opposite and become unbearably hot!
John Lewis had the best price for this model and was delivered on time and into the room I asked.
It is quite bulky and heavy however the wheels do allow it to be moved around relatively easily.
The vent pipe can be detached and re-attached easily and Electrolux do provide some foam and sticky backed thick rubber insulating tape along with a plastic window panel and extender to which the vent pipe is attached to. This allows you to install this into a window without requiring professional installation. They also provide fittings for installation into a wall if you prefer a more permanent solution. There is a fabric cover included for storage over the winter.
Performance is great and it cools my average sized room from 30 degrees to a more comfortable 24 with no problems. It is quite noisy however no more than is to be expected of a machine of this type. We can happily watch TV with it switched on, albeit with the volume turned up a little!
The remote control has an LCD screen so you can set the temperature and fan speeds. It also allows you to set an 'Off' timer of up to 24h and a handy 'On' delay timer of up to 24h.
It has a swing function which is like the oscillate function on a fan and moves the cooled air around the room.
Overall this a good quality product and ideal for a larger room. I give it five stars as we are very happy with it. So-much-so that I immediately ordered a second one for the bedroom!

Left a review already but John Lewis did not post it. The product is very loud, much louder than the claimed 52dB. The cooling is good.
Delivery was not within stated 5 days and was not to room of choice.

Fridge on wheels
This is quite a heavy and bulky product making the "portable" in the title a little optimistic. Still, it has wheels!
It does the job extremely well and was an absolute lifesaver, you can't put a price on a good night's sleep during a heatwave. The thermostat is very good and cuts the cooling when the room is cold enough to save power.
I found the hose long enough to reach my house windows, however it became obvious that leaving the window open (to let the hose through) would result in massive power bills. After a few trips to the local DIY I managed to concoct a window board with a hole through it from a piece of acrylic.

1 - the mains cord is really short, definitely need an extension lead with this. 2 - the exhaust hose is also very short & doesn't reach any of our windows, so an extension is needed. Other than that, it does the job well, cool air quickly and an average sized room cools down nicely.
