Emmeline Pankhurst was a leading British women’s rights activist during the early 20th century. Along with many other brave women, she helped galvanised the movement's principles even when threatened with imprisonment. Eventually, after 40 years of militant campaigning, she achieved success in 1928 when the representative of the peoples' act was passed and British women were, for the first time granted complete equality to vote.
