Gibsons Queen's Diamond Jubilee Puzzle
2012 promises to be a year of national celebration and pride with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee followed by the Olympic Games. Her Royal Highness ascended the throne in 1952 following the death of her father King George V1 and her coronation tookplace a year later in 1953. Even in the post war years of austerity, royal occasions were celebrated with an abundance ofcommemorative souvenirs.
Indeed a coronation jigsaw puzzle was made for the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. Subsequent royal events have been marked with souvenirs and momentoes including thermos flasks, records, clocks, knitting sets, bread wrappers, milk bottle seals as well as the customary china mugs, bowls teaspoons and scrap books. This puzzle has been prepared in conjunction with Robert Opie at the Museum of Brands and features a range of such momentoes from the Coronation, through the Silver Jubilee and on to the Golden Jubilee.
