Product information

Chromecast, from Google, makes it easy to enjoy online video and music on your TV. This thumb-sized device plugs into your TV's HDMI port to allow you to send your favourite online shows, films, music and more to your TV using your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Enjoy together
Chromecast makes huddling around a laptop or tablet screen with tiny speakers to watch a movie a thing of the past. Easily enjoy your favourite online content on your HDTV from apps like BBC iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies and TV, Google Play Music and the Chrome browser so you can take in movies, TV programmes, music and more in comfort. Chromecast even automatically updates to work with a growing number of apps.

Easy set up
Chromecast is easy to set up: simply plug it into your TV and a USB power source (adapter included) and connect it to Wi-Fi using your laptop, tablet or smartphone app. From there, you can use your chosen device to cast your content straight to your TV with the press of a button. Friends and family connected to your wireless network can get involved too, with no additional set up.

Simple controls
Because Chromecast streams from your device, it uses the interface you're used to control it. Manage playback and volume controls simply and easily with your chosen device, with no need for extra remotes.

Some routers are incompatible with Chromecast, please see here to view compatibility (opens in a new window).

Good but not what I was expecting If you want to simply view photos or use you TV as another screen, this isn't the product for you. It only works with the apps stated on the box, which are all good but not what I was looking for. A good product but I will be returning mine. 16 July 2014
So so only I have BT broadband which provides the network for the system. There may need to be an adjustment required to the WiFi unit as I have not yet been able to connect satisfactorily. When using laptop with browser the system does seem to be more reliable. I suspect my problems are BT equipment ones rather than with the device. However, I am disappointed that it does not work as simply as I had envisaged. It does not appear to be a "plug and play" device. 10 July 2014
Great product Mainly used for Netflix. Easy to use, reliable and a great picture. 09 July 2014
Simple and works We got this to be able to watch Netflix on our 8 yr old tv, rather than the ipad. Set up was easy and it works very well. We have high speed virgin internet supply , so not sure how well it would work with a low signal. Definitely recommend versus more expensive apple cabling option. 18 June 2014
chromecast interferes with terrestial channels Easy set up and after a few minutes of playing with it got it broadcasting with iPlayer. Frustratingly chromecast refused to broadcast pictures from google +, despite broadcasting the google+ home page. The problem is that chromecast (on my Panasonic tv) interferes with the picture of other channels. Turning the power off or unplugging the device solves the problem, but makes the use of the device frustrating. Lots of similar complaints on google product forums, solution appears to be to buy a 1.5m hdmi lead and coupler to position the device away from the television, which I will have to try.... 16 June 2014
Does what it should do without a fuss The Google Chromecast does exactly what I expected it to do with no fuss. Setup was a doddle and went without a hitch. BT Sport and BBC iplayer are the two apps I use the most and both look great on our old "non smart" TV. If C4 and SKYnow ever get Chromecast support then that would be 5+ stars, but hey that's not really Google's issue. Just to show what it can do, I also setup the Chromecast at someone else's house - it didn't work right away but I realised their broadband router needed a reset - we did that and again we had a quick/seamless setup. (And setting backup to my home network later once again went without issue.) 06 June 2014
Not very useful at the moment I bought this device as I was told that I could use it as a catch up for itv, Channel 4 and Channel 5 programmes. It does not work for those programmes. You can use it to look at You Tube but I have a rather old smart tv which already has the BBC iPlayer and You Tube anyway. The Chromecast does not let you watch itv, or Channel 4 or Channel 5. They are not supported. I found it quite tricky to set up and the display of the You Tube cast was frequently buffered. It may be useful in the future sometime, but as of now it is a disappointment. 30 May 2014
