Heston Blumenthal Precision Fridge and Freezer Thermometer
hard to read and too expensive
I needed new thermometer quickly via online purchase and this was all JL had to offer. I never buy celebrity branded goods and don't like this chef, but I was reassured to see it was made by Salter.
It came in awful moulded plastic packaging which had nasty sharp edges after opening with scissors.
It is quite large, but is difficult to read even after wiping off the condensation each time. The "safe" areas were difficult to spot at a glance and I would not recommend to anyone with poor sight.
It is annoying that when I open the F/F door to check the temperature, the only thing that can be read at a glance is Heston's name in large letters.
I do not believe that one can be sure of its accuracy unless one has a thermometer of known accuracy alongside of this one.
My old thermometers with mercury scale were far easier to use and read and were a quarter to half the cost of this one, which I regret buying. I shall look elsewhere and replace this.

product works OK but no useful instructions
You might think that a thermometer hardly needs instructions, you just have to read off the temperature and that's that. But ask yourself why anyone would want a freezer thermometer and the answer must surely be to know whether the freezer is malfunctioning. Well the instructions that come with the product say that the temperature will vary with the amount of food stored in the freezer.
But if the thermometer shows the temperature to be higher than the recommended figure one needs to know how much higher before the freezer should be judged to be malfunctioning. Yet there no guide on how much variation is acceptable in a properly functioning freezer. And when I asked the manufacturers of the thermometer how much variation one should expect in a properly functioning freezer all they could say is that it varies by freezer brand, the set up and the quantity of food in the freezer. In other words without a lot of special information not available to someone like me the thermometer reading cannot tell me whether the freezer is working properly or not, which is the only reason I bought it!

Very sensitive to changes in temperature, so took a few days to get the right setting for my fridge. Looks lovely.

An accurate thermometre, a good design and easy to read.
Stands alone and doesn't freeze over.
A very useful and indispensable part of safe fridge food storage.

Expensive but versatile
Seems expensive for a thermometer, but has good scale for fridge and/or freezer compartments. Seems accurate as far as we can tell and the swivel-angle base is convenient. Gives reassurance that correct temperature level is being maintained.

No frills, clear and accurate.
Not too large, practical, basic fridge and freezer thermometer. My only quibble is that the indications of the refrigerator "SAFE" temp range are rather small and difficult to read under such a thick arm when the temp in the fridge is at the high end of the safe range.

Smart Little Number
This is a very stylish looking thermometer as well as providing lots of information. I like the way it folds flat for easy reading on a lower shelf.
