The son of an antiques restorer, New Zealand-born Leonhard grew up surrounded by beautiful furniture. He describes wood as his passion, and says he is "fascinated by the beauty of the grain and its remarkable versatility as a material".
After studying industrial design at Australia's Queensland University of Technology, he moved to London where he produced designs for Vitra, Herman Miller, Knoll, Studio Conran and Linley.
He established his East London furniture design studio in 2003, concentrating on the marriage of "function, form, materials and manufacturing". His passion for design has been recognised with a number of awards, including a Design Guild Mark.
