Matthew Hilton for Case

Decorating inspiration

Matthew is synonymous with the curvaceous Balzac chair which turned him into one of the UK's most respected furniture designers.

Matthew began his career in the product design industry as a model-maker before setting up his own furniture design studio in 1984. His Bow shelves launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1986, with more recent milestones including the seminal Balzac armchair, Orford sofa and Flipper coffee table.

In order to gain control of the design, manufacturing and marketing of furniture under his own name, Matthew established his own brand in 2007. The following year, he became a Royal Designer for Industry, and was also named British Designer of the year by Elle Decoration.
