Q & As

Hotpoint HUE62 Electric Cooker 3.3 5 3 3
Can't fault it! I've owned one of these for a month or so now andf it has been given plenty of use in that time. Everything about it works well- temperatures seem accurate and it's quick to heat up - grill and both ovens work exactly as they should, and the door insulation works very well indeed. The timer functions all work well, as does the oven's proving and bread baking function. It's too early to say much about build quality but so far all seems well in that respect. The control knobs might be more easily readable , but having them on the front panel does increase the amount of space available on the hob - which is pretty well designed- a number of different permutations of heat zones are possible, which can be very useful. And delivery up two flights of stairs was on time - to the minute, too! 04 June 2014
Hotpoint HUE62 - not that great I bought the stainless steel version of this cooker. Delivery of the cooker was meant to be within 3 working days but this took a little longer with no call received until the third working day to arrange delivery. The buzzer for the timer is very quiet so if you are any where else other than the kitchen or if there are a few people talking you will not hear it. The buzzer stops after a short time so if you have gone out of the room the buzzer may have stopped by the time you come back and you will be unaware that the timer has finished. The clock display disappears when you are not using the cooker which probably saves energy but I like to see the time. When setting the timer you have to scroll through the clock time settings before getting to the the timer function meaning that if you are not careful you will alter the clock time, as well as being unnecessarily long-winded. The halogen hob is slow to heat up compared to my previous 15 years old Zanussi cooker. I've checked the oven with a thermometer and it is about 172 degrees at a set 180 degrees so I end up cooking at conventional rather than fan oven temperatures. The description for the hob and oven controls is in a very fine and small font and is beneath the knobs so that you have to bend down to read it until you are used to the controls. The knobs feel like they are made from cheap plastic. The fan on the oven seems to slow down suddenly and then immediately regain speed - not sure if this is a feature or a fault. The oven has loads of fancy settings but I've not used them. I think that if Hotpoint had spent more time getting the basics right and less time making the oven and grill from emitting silly chimes when you switch them on or off then it would have had a better cooker. On the plus side it doesn't look too bad and the quality of most of the cooker seems reasonable compared with some of the cheaper brands. 01 June 2014
Very good I bought this cooker after my very old Hotpoint gave up after years of reliable cooking. This cooker has many features the old one didn't have. The oven control is preset to cook different items if you choose but you can adjust the cooking temp yourself too. Options include cakes chicken fish etc.. I do a lot of baking and really like the rise option.. Just cover and pop your dough in and get a quick fantastic rise of bread. The cooker timer is so easy to use and bleeps when done and also switches the oven off so nothing burns. The grill I find gets good and hot and I like that you can use just half of it if needed. Onto the top.. This is my one niggle area. My old Hotpoint had a Halogen ring at the front which was so fast and hot enough to cook a really good stir fry however the new one takes longer to heat. It has 2 smaller rings which go from 1-12 so good for a slow simmer and the front right ring you can either have as a small ring or set to a bigger oval size which I like for bigger pans but find it cooks in a line rather than and even circle.. This ring seems to take a while to get good and hot.. The back left ring you can also have small as a single or double and this one I find the fastest. I use this one to bring my pressure cooker up to temp... the large rings go from 1-4 heat setting. All in all for the price I think its a nice cooker and would buy again. Oh the steel option if your fussy will prob drive you nuts keeping it smear free. Could have done with a coating of some kind as I seem to be wiping the steel all the time however this does not affect the cooker and is just me.. Very good size main oven so great for bigger families or entertaining. If your on a budget I think you could do a lot worse.. I looked in many shops and I'm pleased I purchased this product and am looking forward to many years of of pain free service from it if it lives up to my old Hotpoint. I would have given it a 5/5 if the rings were a little quicker but still a good purchase 27 February 2014
