We bought this light fitting quite some time ago, as it was just what I wanted for our newly-decorated bathroom. My husband is an electrical engineer but he found that fittting a bulb was so awkward that the glass shade broke.
I returned it and am amazed that it is still on sale. Certainly not recommended.

This light was fitted 2 weeks ago but the electrician had put in a non-dimmable low energy bulb so I needed to change it. After reading the instructions and every review, including the advice from John Lewis to rest the bowl on a soft cloth - not much good when it is attached to the ceiling - I tried to change the bulb. Wearing rubber gloves to get purchase, avoiding the bowl end and using a rubber spatula to open up a gap to allow access to the first clip, I felt I was taking every precaution, but as soon as I got the first clip free the other two exerted so much pressure they cracked two large rounded bites out of the opposite side to the one on which I was working. The other two clips were completely out of my reach so there was nothing I could do to stop them snapping at the rim. No wonder John Lewis say that you can buy a replacement globe - I imagine that it will be needed every time I try to remove the shade. I would avoid this light, good looking and good value though it might be, as the clips are too tight for the glass shade. Disappointingly impractical design from a company usually good at making its products user friendly.

After reading the reviews I was concerned however bulb changed successfully.
My technique was to move the glass bowl off centre from the hinges then place a rubber spatula in the gap. This meant I could gently increase the gap such that I could then get a chop stick in to push the first hinge down and move the bowl off it. It was then easy to manoeuvre it off the other 2 hinges.
After changing the bulb, to put the bowl back on I slid the bowl over one hinge then used my chopstick to push a hinge down before sliding over the second, then finally the third which was difficult and scary but ok.
All good but the putting back on was more stressful than the taking off. Hopefully the Eco bulb will last a very long time....
All the best

Suprisingly good value coming in cheaper than the paper shade we bought at the same time. Super stylish and easy to clean. Gives off a lovely soft light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by StopfordianLass Tricky to fit but worth the patience and effort!
I read the reviews before buying this ceiling light and, as I couldn't find he same light with adjustable drop locally, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go!
As with the other reviews, the only tricky part was fitting the glass globe. Paying heed to other people's experiences, I was extra careful and with a little gentle coaxing and a lot of patience, fitted the globe with no mishaps.
The light is just what I wanted, looks perfect and the only reason it does't get 5 stars from me is because of the awkwardness of fitting the glass globe.
The bulb I used is supposed to last ten years - I really hope it does because I don't relish the thought of changing it!!!

At first I hated this product.Found it impossible to remove and refit the glass shade. My partner is more patient and found no problem with it. There is a knack to it...always slide the globe so that you can release or engage the metal clips one at a time only, and it will be fine. Slide the glass cover about until you can engage the next metal clip and so on. Be patient. It does work. The glass globe is stronger than I thought, tho' pressure should be appiled across your hand and not with finger-tips. I triumphed over my intuition that it would all break in my hands. Don't put clear glass bulbs in as these cast ugly shadows across the white glass cover.

Like some of the other reviewers we purchased our first of these lights which looks lovely but then the glass globe broke while changing the bulb as the spring was so tight. We purchased another thinking it was due to the way we had taken the globe off but the same thing happened to the second one when we had to again change the bulb. I wish we had read the reviews before buying either of them.
We have given up and bought something else to replace it now which is a shame as it looked really nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trunce Superb Value -easy to fit & replace light if required.
It was with some trepidation, that I bought 2 of these light fittings, after reading the reviews, people having problems.
Written instructions are as good as they could be, but after looking at the fittings, and a little lateral thinking, I had the globe on and off within 20 secs - no pressure on glass globe, therefore no risk of breaking.
Note to JLP
PDF fitting instructions did not open on your website, but if they had, I doubt whether those reporting difficulty would have been assisted. Perhaps video instruction would be more helpful to aid those in need.
