Q & As

Humax DTR-T1010 YouView Smart 1TB Freeview+ HD Digital TV Recorder 4.1 5 9 9
One year on... I've had this YouView box for just over a year now. It started off fine - the series record is a great feature, the on demand options are great when connected to the internet, the guide and menus are clear and concise. Unfortunately, in the last month or so, the operating speed has been grinding to a painfully slow halt. The software is up to date. I tried clearing out the hard drive by deleting some old recordings. I formatted the hard drive (therefore losing all recordings and scheduled recordings, but I was getting desperate). Nothing has worked, and a search for a solution has turned up a multitude of similar complaints from people with the same box. It's pretty much got to un-usable now, every button press taking about 30 seconds to register. Thankfully, it's still within the 2 year JL guarantee, so I'll be attempting to return it in the very near future. 05 July 2014
Great product A very versatile little box that has ALL the Youview channels on freeview Just had a little initial set-up problem that the support team rectified 03 June 2014
A very versatile product This Humax model is all you need if you are able to access a suitable Freeview signal. Recording two programmes simultaneously whilst watching another that has been recorded, and now On Demand plus more new features are excellent, Annoying is the continuous scrolling along the front of the box when on playback. 03 June 2014
great product, as long as you can hook it up to the internet this hard drive does a very good job. the menus are intuitive, the picture quality is good and the remote isn't over cluttered. the only issues which deny this product a 5 star rating are a display screen that cannot be dimmed and therefore can be distracting and very bright, even in standby mode, and the fact that there is no built in wifi. if you can't connect this to an ethernet cable you can't use the youview features and i think this is a major omission on the spec front particularly when the youview features are such a prominent selling point of this product. additionally, the humax wifi dongle available from humax and also on sale at john lewis WILL NOT WORK with this product! this was confirmed by the people at Humax customer support. in summary, assuming you can hook it up correctly via a powerline or directly to your internet hub, this is a very good product. 12 March 2014
Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic piece of kit, easy to set up and use, as others have said. Software design is exceptionally excellent, intuitive to use and easy to navigate. The conjunction of catch-up tv and 'on now' into a single guide from which to select what you watch is a stroke of (unusually customer-centric) genius. I had the Humax PVR9200 which has been for many years a dependable pleasure to use. This upgrade (to add YouView functionality) does not disappoint, adding internet access and the major catch-up tv apps whilst retaining and improving on all the earlier strengths. It's also great that you can programme it remotely via an app on your smartphone. Its own remote control is also well designed and pleasant to use. A very useful and fun new toy with no caveats - I am truly delighted with it! 29 January 2014
Really useful and easy to use product This is a very easy product to setup when first plugged in. Navigating the menus for both channel selection, recording and playback are straight forward to use and easy to follow. I would recommend this product. 21 January 2014
A Seriously Great Piece of Kit I already had a Humax YouView Recorder from John Lewis so I had no hesitation in upgrading to a higher spec model. It is an excellent appliance in every way from its 1TB HDD to its recording capabilities. I especially like the fact that I can schedule recordings via the YouView App which is easily downloaded on smartphones and tablets. The On Demand feature is excellent, making full use of my high speed internet connection, a boon when you have young children requesting an endless supply of their favourite TV programme! Setup is simple. The controls are intuitive. It offers a wide range of viewing options.Software updates are automatically downloaded as and when they become available via Humax. John Lewis provides a two year warranty on this product which speaks volumes for its reliability. It is compact and looks well with its brushed aluminium facia. I can thoroughly recommend the Humax DTR-T1010. 17 December 2013
Good - but. . . . . As stated elsewhere, the setup is fairly straightforward and surprisingly quick, and the picture quality considerably better than on older Humax models. And, yes, you can get BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4 in High Definition, together with a number of other sources like iPlayer and all its cousins, especially for the week that you might just have missed. There are reams of films, cartoons and the like which are available with the “On Demand” feature, too. It will take time fully to explore these. It’s what you don’t get that is surprising. There is a whole bundle of FreeView HD channels between 225 and 237 which you cannot view at this time. You get a message saying, “You do not have a compatible Freeview HD device” which is confusing and which one is not told when buying YouView. It’s not that I would want to watch VISION, CCTV, CHRISTIAN, CONNECT and the like, but it’d be nice if one was told at the outset that these channels are presently excluded despite being part of FreeView. I’ll have to miss out on God until Humax can develop a suitable software upgrade. Even here, someone is playing their cards very close to their chest since nowhere can I find when this upgrade is anticipated to happen. Having upgraded from a Humax PVR 9200T to the YouView, I am surprised that it does not seem possible to tune channels manually on the YouView. In parts of Cornwall, this is important since the closest transmitter does not give the strongest signal, and auto-tune locks on to the nearest transmitter. Perhaps the most troubling is the way in which the remote control works. On balance, it’s a nice bit of kit if you are a technophile and I can’t wait for Wimbledon in HD. 10 October 2013
