Q & As

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unacceptable Having had Humax PVRs before I had no hesitation in ordering one of these. The first one emitted an odd and persistent grating noise when in operation and it was replaced. The second one had an identical fault with the added problem of completely unacceptable picture pixelation. Overall, a complete disaster. I am now awaiting a Panasonic and will never buy Humax again. John Lewis customer service as helpful and understanding as ever! 15 June 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use HDR I bought this digital TV recorder for my 85 year old mum. I bought it to replace a recorder from another manufacturer which had the most baffling and unfriendly user interface. I don't have a lot of experience/knowledge in buying products like this so I spent some time comparing this with similar products. Whilst there are more complex and functional recorders out there I decided on the Humax because the reviews suggested it was easy to use and provides good quality recordings - and it delivers on both. It doesn't have all the "on demand" catch up services but the BBC iPlayer works fine via a wireless connection to the internet although the recorder version of iPlayer is a little clunky compared to the rest of the recorder software. Picture quality is excellent via the twin tuners. Service from John Lewis was excellent as ever. 13 May 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Away from home Bought for our caravan holidays. Really good. Able to record for catchup and to plan. 12 May 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Rubbish I'm surprised that John Lewis (Kingston) sold us this. The TV aerial feed of RF(loop through) is disconnected every time the recorder powers down. Fine if you enjoy swapping aerial leads each time "No Signal" appears on the TV, but annoying if not. This design flaw is noted on this web site, and elsewhere on the web. John Lewis will hopefully take this one away, and we'll find a non Humax replacement. 09 April 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by HUMAX Portal Problems This is our 3rd HUMAX PVR. Easy to set up and records channels, but the Portal is struggling. I used a dongle for WiFi and speed is over 50Mbs. Go to YouTube and you can select a video after Searching, but it then says 'Cannot support this video due to invalid file format'. Switched on and off, but all to no avail. Can get iPlayer ok , but do like YouTube. Any suggestions? 29 December 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by faulty product Our last Humax was great but we had nothing but problems with this one. It took ages to start up and repeatedly showed the 'no signal' notice before finally connecting. It often started with no sound which was only rectified by turning it off and on again. And it wouldn't record!?! It would sometimes record single programmes but wouldn't do series at all. I also didn't like that it had no display - it just has a red or blue light - blue when it is on, red when it is off or recording, which is confusing. John Lewis refunded me with no issues though so my only gripe is with the product. 11 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does the job I wanted no more than a dual tuner because I have a smart TV. The Humax is fine. Handbook index does not reflect contents and online handbook is more comprehensive. If you want to store channels manually - I live in two overlapping BBC regions - note that you must set 'transmission' to DVB-T2 if you want to store HD channels, eg 31, COM 7 HD and 57, BBC B HD. Otherwise, everything seems very straightforward. 26 November 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not smart at all Bought this for elderly parents so they could watch catch up TV on the TV instead of the computer. No use except for BBC iPlayer. Does not work with ITV player or Ch4oD or Demand 5. Would not have bought it if we had known this. Also took two hours to set up aerial loop through, this is really complicated. Buy a YouView instead. It actually does what it is supposed to do, this device does not, it is basically a recording device. Very poor product, very disappointing. 07 November 2014
