Easy to setup & use but some issues.
My initial thoughts were good. Delivery was quick. installation was quick & easy too.
My first issue was with the manual. It seems like it has been cobbled together quickly from other manuals. There was one hand-drawn picture of an ambiguous box to show the connections but it didn't represent the actual box.
My second issue, albeit a small one, is with the case. It is a wonderful dust collector.
My third issue, a slightly more annoying one, is that the buttons most used on the remote control click when pressed. The other less used buttons push softly. Some consistency would be better here.
Although this box is designed for use with two incoming satellites signals, I have only one and the box still worked perfectly. Furthermore, as channels are grouped it can still be possible to record one and watch another in this way, depending on the channels.
The menus are easy to navigate and I like the seamlessness on the EPG (programme guide) between selecting current programs and those available through BBC iPlayer and ITV Player. Another niggle here that 4OD is still not available.
A list of favourite channels can be setup and it would have been more useful if the remote control had a favourites button, rather than having to press three buttons going through the menus to reach it.
Now, after three months use, my Humax has given up. While watching Film4, the box decided to restart itself. After about three seconds of returning to my film it restarted again, and again and again. It doesn't respond to the remote or the buttons on the box. I tried unplugging everything and re-inserting the power cable only but it happened again - continuous restarting. I've contacted Humax to see if it can be rectified as I don't really want to lose my recordings. I've had no response yet so it looks like I may have to return it to John Lewis. Pity!

Easy installation
Bought this yesterday at Croydon store after sensible advice from assistant. Took it home, opened the box and was set up and connected in no time. Works really well.

Nice bit of KIt
This 500GB Freesat box was very easy to install and set up and the tv guide menu is user friendly, the box itself is small, smart & compact. The HD picture quality is as excellent as expected and I am hoping that Freesat will add more HD channels in the near future. The 500GB HDD is sufficient enough for my need for 300 hrs SD or 125 hrs HD recordings and the Recording function seems very user friendly also.
My only criticism of this Box which seems a bit trivial is that the buttons on the Remote control do make a clicking sound which seems really poor and I hope Humax address this in the future! Apart from this don`t let this very minor thing put you off purchasing a very good bit if Kit. I give this product 4.5 out of 5. would have got 5/5 if not for the remote!

This would have been 5 stars but the remote is a little bit cheap and noisy it clicks rather annoyingly and when changing channels there is a bit of a clunk on the audio.

Great quality product, very easy set up fantastic delivery....
Fantastic product....I will never pay to watch TV again! The set up was so easy plug in and away you go. The Iplayer and freetime functions are so quick and easy to use, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone. Delivery was so quick i ordered on Saturday dinnertime and it arrived at dinner time on the Monday, well done John Lewis!

I recently purchased the Humax HDR-1000S Freesat digital Recorder.from John Lewis On Line. This product is excellent, at the moment I am not on the Internet but can make maximum use of the Recording facilities plus its great TV guide and ease of use. I had a technical problem with the unit after several days. Hats off to John Lewis, who replaced it in 24 hours-working fine. .

A Very User Friendly Product.
We decided that we wanted HD reception and the ability to easily record programmes in a similar manner to the Sky Plus system. The Humax HDR-1000S Free Time HD Digital TV Recorder provides us with exactly what we want. The instructions which come with it are a bit basic but a full manual can be downloaded and the unit is very user friendly.
I would not hesitate in recommending this unit to anyone and the service we received from John Lewis was second to none.

So far, so good
Very quick and easy to set up. I bought it to use mostly in a touring caravan with satellite reception and recording a priority which both work fine. On line not so good as yet, no Channel 4 or 5 though both "coming soon". I also have cable and I did think eventually I would be able to cancel this but it does not seem likely unless there is a dramatic improvement. Sleep easy Messrs Branson and Murdoch!
