Product information

The most advanced Roomba vacuum cleaning robot yet, this i-Robot Roomba 780 vacuum cleaner will take care of your floors while you put your feet up and relax!

This machine vacuums on its own using iAdapt™ Responsive Cleaning Technology, and is a multi-floor cleaner, handling carpet, hardwood, tile and linoleum with ease. It cleans on a schedule that is convenient for you, and stays in the rooms you want to clean and out of the ones you don’t. And with a convenient carrying handle, transporting the Roomba between floors is a breeze.

Advanced features include:

  • Dual HEPA filters: these capture dust particles as fine as 0.3 microns, leaving fresher and healthier air behind
  • ‘Cliff Detect’ technology ensures your roomba vacuum won’t fall down stairs
  • Patented 3-stage cleaning process enables this machine to pick up a large amount of dust, dirt and debris
  • Soft-touch bumper: the moulded bumper cushions the contact made between the surface of Roomba and walls, furniture and other objects in the room
  • Roomba features in-built escape behaviour so it can free itself from electrical cables and rug tassles
  • All Roomba robots come with their own Home Base charging unit, which Roomba automatically returns to when its battery is running low and needs recharging
  • Dust bin full indicator: helpfully lets you know when the dust bin is full
  • Sensory cleaning for excellent results: the 770 uses optical and acoustic sensors to detect large and small particles. It also employs a brush-like, back and forth motion in areas where it senses excessive dirt to focus cleaning effort
  • Advanced cleaning head: this provides superior performance for picking up dirt, dust, pet hair, allergens and more from carpets and hard floors
  • AeroVac™ Series 2 bin: vigorously pulls debris and hair of brushes into the bin, which holds even more debris than previous machines

Q & As

i-Robot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaner 4 5 11 11
Super duper thing Keen to join the 21st century we decided to try out this bit of tech. So ordered on line and had it delivered, which was very quick, 2 days. Having watched the DVD instructions, which was well explained and easy to follow we set up our little robot helper. Once again straight forward instructions were provided in the box. Only disappointment was that there were no batteries for the light houses (4xC) and remote (2xAA). Given the price tag I would have expected this. Anyway we set the robot off on it's first job after fully charging it. The thing did very well, but missed a large potion. I then realised I had not set the light houses up correctly. On the second run it did a fantastic job. I think this useful bit of tech will be great. to keep on top of the vacuuming. I would recommend that you set up and use the light houses for the best results, plus clean the brushes and empty the dust box after every clean. We are very pleased with it. 31 August 2014
Amazing and saves so much time. I bought this product last week and I am amazed how much it picks up. The house looks spotles. I set it going whilst I am at work and come home and all the hoovering is done! Wish I had bought it earlier. 22 January 2014
Bought Jan 2013, reviewing Jan 2014 - still love it this indispensable little machine Our house has wood, carpet and tiles on the floors and two hairy dogs - my Roomba 780 does a good job on all 3 floor types but the dogs don't like it much. I use it a lot. Obviously it can't do the stairs but that is a small price to pay. You must keep the brushes clean - I don't mind doing this 5 minute job in return for hours of extra free time and, of course, you have to empty the dust box - more for carpet than wood or tile. It does clean everywhere - we have laid traps for ours to check - even though it seems to move about randomly. You could check out the Roomba web-site for technical information and videos. It can't get right into corners so periodically you might feel you have to vacuum corners with a manual - or not. Roomba gets right up to skirting boards so no line at the carpet edge. We have a large fringed rug - once or twice it has become stuck on the fringe but it just stops and waits for rescue. I always lift thin wires off the ground, our Roomba spits them out but there might be that one time... I can't fault mine, I did a lot of research before buying because they ain't cheap but I have never regretted buying it for one minute. Other plus points - the brushes are easy to clean, the dust-box is easy to empty, loads of snob value, fascinating to visitors and makes them all jealous, looks good. It's easy to imagine it has a personality - it looks so happy when its trundling about busily cleaning. or maybe it's just me who is happy that I am sitting watching something else do the hard work! 04 January 2014
Our 2nd Roomba This i-Robot Roomba 780 Vacuum is our second Roomba so we clearly like them. We have a hairy dog and the robot keeps the tumbleweed in check. This model seems sturdier than the 562 but there is still room for design improvements. You really need to remove the fluff etc that gets caught in the end section of the spinning bars every day. The price is hard to swallow, but we would not like to be without one! 03 January 2014
When will it do stairs? I brought my Roomba (immediately anthropomorphised as "Sharon" ) 2 months ago as I now have a dog and I'm lazy. Life on the technology cutting edge can be hit and miss, but Sharon is a direct hit. I can't imagine life without her, and everyone who sees her wants one. She does a fantastic job at keeping my house clean, and because she does not need to "learn" her way around, you can take your Roomba anywhere you feel like showing off (such as the folks house at Xmas.) Sharon is also extremely quiet for a hoover, so you can carry on normal life with her cleaning, but be warned - she takes her time and sometimes seems like she is not cleaning when she is. When she arrived I couldn't sleep with excitement, but you have to be patient as she is powered by a NI-MH battery so the first charge will take about 16 hours. In order to give her a head start, I went round with a conventional hoover, but even after her first run, she was full to bursting with dust. She works little and often and i've not had a use for a conventional hoover except for the stairs. She takes about 65 minutes to do the downstairs, but she has a quoted battery life of 220 minutes, and she will happily do the upstairs as well without a charge in between. A bit of advice for any future employer of a Roomba; Supervise Roomba's first day out. Sharon got caught under my hat stand on the 1st day and scratched her control panel ( easily removed with some plastic polish). So make sure you block anything off where Roomba might get wedged. Use the lighthouses wisely, Roomba works 10x better with them. I also acquired the optional Halo, to protect the dog food bowls (Roomba hates water) Roomba needs inspecting daily to keep her brushes clear, and emptying the dust tray. Finally: If like me you own a dog (border collie in my case) that craves herding, they probably will not get along. I have reprogrammed Sharon via the serial port (supplied) to stop and complain if she suspects she is being herded. 25 December 2013
Waste of money Absolutely rubbish!! Picks up and spits it right back out again. The most useless and disappointing thing I have ever bought. Am going to phone JL to find out whether I can return it. Thought it was too good to be true and it is too good to be true. Should have known better than to think it would work, Moves around like a headless chicken picking up and spitting back out again. So annoyed. 05 December 2013
Fantastic Bought this for my mother who has terrible arthritis. I wanted to ease the cleaning process for her in her new apartment. (It makes a great housewarming gift). Its lovely. So good. You would still need a traditional hoover every week or possibly two- three depending on the size of place. Its great. You turn it on as you leave for the day and it works its little socks of whilst you are out. Wonderful. One final word in praise of John Lewis. Whilst renovating my flat, I ordered things from other retailers for my kitchen. Every single time they called, either unable to park or unwilling to attend. It was a nightmare. John Lewis on the other hand.... no calls. They were just there when they said they would be. Never known anything like it in Central London. Kudos. 10 June 2013
Fantastic, on easy carpet for sure Bought it when my elderly mother moved apartment, having bad experience with carers keeping the carpets clean. i-Robot is amazing! Can't see any other carpet nowadays wishing one of these robots had gone over it. It has to be said though that the carpet is room-width and has short hair (like in a posh shop): easy for the machine. On a rare occasion the VC does get stuck on something left on the floor and sometimes I would think it happens a bit too easy. Then the battery runs out and it appears that might mess up the timer clock. Maybe the seemly at random path the VC follows could be more "intelligent" but in the end the results are more then good. The dustbin is small. Even my 5 year old found the remote control boring. I have not found a good use for the lighthouse/firewalls. Their use should be better documented in the manual. Their design (on the edge of a doorway) and approach could need a rethink too. Don't need them anyway. The small rotating brush needs a screwdriver to be replaced. A small screwdriver could have found IMO its place clicked somewhere under the hood. Thinking now about buying a 2nd one for a much more challenging environment. 31 March 2013
