I'll admit it, I am shockingly difficult to buy gifts for. I know what I like and have regrettably expensive taste. Most things I wish for I'm far too embarrassed to ask for - an Aston Martin and a greenhouse are on this year's unpublished Christmas list…

The kind of gifts I really appreciate though, are those that show how much thought has been put into selecting them. This year for my 40th birthday, I was given a beautiful framed illustration of my garden, which cheers me up every time I look at it. What's more, the illustrator managed to edit out all the weeds!

We offer similar house and garden illustrations from a lovely company called Letterfest, based in North Devon. All you have to do is email a photograph of your chosen subject, and within 10 days of ordering the clever people at Letterfest will deliver a hand-drawn sketch, framed and ready to put on the wall. Last order date for pre- Christmas delivery is 10 December.

If you have a big family, there's always a risk that Santa won't know whose stocking is whose on Christmas night. To avoid grandma ending up with a chart topping rap CD, or dad unwrapping some glittery nail varnish, get your stockings personalised with a name. Cambric & Cream has a selection of hand-embroidered stockings, Santa sacks, advent calendars and children's' decorations. They can be kept and used year-in, year-out. Last order date for pre- Christmas delivery is 3 December.

Finally, with the dinner party season now in full flow, I've discovered our range of personalised chocolates. They make a very welcome alternative to flowers or wine....and if you play your cards right you may even get to sample one at the end of a good meal. Choc-on-Choc can personalise a range of Belgian chocolates and milk chocolate bars with a message for your host - all you need to do is find the right words! Last order date for pre- Christmas delivery is 3 December.

As for the Aston Martin, I think I may have to set my sights on the latest edition - a die cast black model for £10 .....and it will even fit in my stocking!
