Get ready to glow with enticing new products that promise a luminous complexion
THE ROUTE TO RADIANT SKIN Sali Hughes, Guardian Beauty Editor

For me, spring skincare is really all about radiance. The cold winter months have passed, leaving skin a little weather-beaten, dull and ready to be nursed back to glowing good health. Now is the time to give some moisture back to your skin with a restorative cream.

This season sees some fabulous day-cream launches, and there’s a particular emphasis on tightening and lifting sagging skin. My favourites so far are Chanel’s Le Lift (great name and characteristically dribble-inducing packaging, available in John Lewis shops), and the velvety  Plantscription Powerful Lifting Cream by Origins. Both feel luxurious and rich on my dehydrated skin, giving it a lovely smooth finish with no oiliness whatsoever. To get the best results, always apply these creams to clean skin, after you’ve applied a serum. I’m currently using  De La Mer’s new Lifting Contour Serum by night and, by day,

Elemis’ Visible Brilliance serum, which is great for perking up my grey, just-coming-out-of-winter skin. Tinted moisturisers are an excellent way to restore glow, though I always recommend applying them over, not instead of, your regular day cream. Estée Lauder is adding to its hugely popular, long-lasting Double Wear range with All-Day Glow BB Cream (that is, Blemish Balm), giving healthy colour, sun protection and non-greasy moisture to the face. Meanwhile, Decleor follows up its own much-loved BB cream with a new DD (aka Daily Defence) cream – a 100% mineral cream for those who are sensitive to chemical sunscreens.

After traditional skincare comes trickery, thanks to clever primers and colour correctors. These are great for disguising uneven tone and brightening dullness, and I rely on them a lot. Perhaps one of the best primers launched this year comes courtesy of Dior’s Dream Skin, a unique serum that acts as an instant skin perfector, pore minimiser, mattifier and primer, as well as a long-term skincare treatment formulated to prevent dark spots, fine lines and uneven texture. Just smooth over your regular skincare before applying your base.

Personally, I’m devoted to Laura Mercier’s Radiance Primer, so I was delighted to discover her new bronzing version for spring. It does everything the original does so brilliantly: unifies tone, smooths skin and locks down foundation, but now it has added colour to bring a healthy glow to all skin tones in need of a boost.
