Copy Producer,

Are you tired of your washing machine sounding like a jumbo jet when its on spin cycle? Or your kettle making a high-pitched noise which can be heard over the TV? It sounds like you need to Quiet Mark your home appliances.

What is Quiet Mark?

Quiet Mark was launched last year to encourage manufacturers to make quieter products. It was founded by Poppy Elliott, the granddaughter of John Connell, who founded the Noise Abatement Society in 1959. The Noise Abatement Society has worked closely with the Government and various industries over the last 50 years to abate ‘excessive and unnecessary noise’ in the workplace and in our home environment, for a calmer, more peaceful way of living.

How quiet is quiet?

Quiet Mark awards a stamp of approval to products that minimise noise including kettles, blenders, hairdryers and washing machines.

The following products all have a Quiet Mark seal of approval so when you buy one of these appliances you can be sure there will be no disruptive noises spoiling your oasis of calm.

The Magimix 5200XL Premium BlenderMix Food Processor is a handy kitchen gadget and one that is remarkably quiet to use, so much so, it’s used by TV chefs so they can talk to the camera as they chop and blend.

If your biggest bugbear is a noisy, whistling kettle then the KitchenAid Artisan Kettle will make the perfect cup of tea quietly thanks to its double wall insulation.

This Philips PerfectCare Silence GC9550/02 Steam Generator Iron has the stamped seal of approval for its quiet steam functions, so you can iron whilst catching up on your favourite TV programmes without any disruption.

The quietest large appliances approved by Quiet Mark are from brands such as Samsung, AEG and our own brand range. The Samsung WF1124XAC ecobubble™ VRT Washing Machine with 12kg load and A+++ energy rating, features a quiet drive motor with vibration reduction technology for minimal noise disruption.

The AEG F88072W0P Dishwasher runs at 42dB which is similar to a refrigerator humming. For a better comparison, a vacuum cleaner runs at 80dB!

Lots of John Lewis appliances have been awarded the Quiet Mark stamp; these include our fridges, freezers and cooker hoods. The John Lewis JLBIHD603 Chimney Cooker Hood, Stainless Steel is slim, unobtrusive and has a maximum noise level of 68dB.

If you’re looking for an integrated appliance, the John Lewis JLBIFF1807 Integrated Fridge Freezer provides flexible storage solutions whilst being energy efficient. This compact John Lewis JLUCLFW6005 Larder Fridge with A+ Energy Rating, slots away neatly under your kitchen counter, so you can be sure that your kitchen not only looks good but is also a harmonious place to be.

So next time you’re in the market for a home appliance look out for the Quiet Mark stamp of approval, it might just bring some peace and quiet into your daily routine.
