Step up to a new door mat
The cold weather will soon be here and what better way to protect your home from fallen leaves and snow than with a door mat.
Door mats are trodden on thousands of times a day but often go unnoticed meaning they don't always get the credit they deserve. They have saved many a cream carpet from a muddy paw print and dried passing feet preventing slipping on a shiny new floor. They also welcome people into your home and urge guests to wipe their feet when they arrive, as they observe the message dirt is unwanted here.
The average 6 room home takes in 40 pounds (20 bags of sugar) of dust and dirt in one year. 80% of this amount is brought in from the outside world on shoes, boots and paws. Thus making a door mat a great investment, especially when you live somewhere like the UK where it rains a lot!
Door mat styles vary greatly and over the past few years we've seen a significant rise in the popularity of doormats that incorporate designs. Colourful doorsteps have sprung up across the UK making us question who lives beyond the door. People have taken this opportunity to bring a personal touch to accessorising their doors with designs, slogans, colours and textures. One of my favourite design doormats is Jute loop stripe which incorporates the Puritan colour palette with a sophisticated stripe design. Jute fibre is 100% bio-degradable and recyclable making it an environmentally friendly choice. Another great design is our coastal
Seagrass jumbo door mat with its thick sea grass fibres entwined to form a durable design worthy of a fine ship.
Another trend we have seen grow is messages on door mats. With people wanting to welcome people into their home. We've developed some lovely designs that do this job. Our Hello mat design which is printed onto coir has greetings of hello in many ways that can't be missed! Coir mats are made using coconut husk fibres which are then applied to a durable backing.
Cotton washable mats are highly recommended for people who have children or pets, or both! They have invaluable properties for households that are prone to accepting muddy paws and boots. Not only are these mats super absorbent but they're also easy to clean, machine washable and tumble drier friendly. I would recommend them for front and back doors as well as utility and kitchen spaces. We have John Lewis cotton mats as well as Turtle mats.
Turtle mats are very popular and have been around since the mid 1990's. They were developed after the creator discovered how effective cotton is at preventing damage caused to floors by dirt and moisture. Turtle mats have a 5 year guarantee and we have 3 exclusive plain colours that you can't get anywhere else on the high street; Sand, Fawn and Graphite.
When considering door mats for your home, the areas with the highest amount of traffic should be your first priority. Good quality mats will prevent dirt and moisture being transferred round your home and also reduce the amount of time spent cleaning floors.
As the cold weather draws in door mats should be a priority purchase, and if you're getting excited about Christmas we have the perfect mat that also doubles up as a handy shopping list.
