Help your garden hibernate
Did I miss the summer this year, or was the best enjoyed in the spring when we believed we had it all still to come? As we enjoy the last of the late golden sunshine, we see the nights are drawing in and the leaves on the trees beginning to turn to those wonderful autumnal colours. There's work to do though, and it's time to turn our attention to preparing our garden for the winter months ahead. But I'm not just talking about lawns or plants - it's about cleaning up your outdoor room!
Packing up the outdoor furniture needs a bit of effort. By ensuring your outdoor furniture hibernates well, you also make sure it's unpacked looking just as good - meaning less spring cleaning.
If some of the items are too large to put away, then furniture covers are an essential purchase to protect your furniture against the elements. Give your furniture a good clean before you cover it - there's a chemical-free E-cloth for every purpose.
Sadly, the days when you can peg out your washing to dry in the fresh air are numbered during the winter months, so it's a good idea to invest in a rotary airer cover in plain dark green, a bright bold stripe or even camouflage florals. These will fit various sizes and are designed to keep rotary airers rust-free, maximising their lifespan.
You'll also find a breadth of choice in barbecue covers to fit all sizes, including both compact kettle and bistro styles. This way you can leave your barbecue outside and use it again for Hallow'een or bonfire night parties - or I hear that Christmas barbecues are beginning to become a new trend, as an alternative to all that Boxing day cold meat!
With everything packed away you're now in a good position to get stuck into sweeping all those never-ending leaves into sacks or on to bonfires. Leaf collectors and strong sturdy brooms are a real requirement, and with the Addis range of broom heads, one pole fits all sizes so you can choose what ever suits the job (only available online).
For the patio, our new Casabella range of patio cleaning equipment is superb quality, with brooms and a telescopic window washer, ideal for tackling those murky conservatory windows. In a lightweight rustproof aluminium, they make these chores so much easier. (Only available online.)
Do I dare to mention the snow which is guaranteed to catch us unawares and unprepared every year? This year we'll be selling a special snow broom with steel bristles and scraper, and a snow shovel. Be prepared I say, and have the right equipment ready in your garage or shed. Deliveries wil be into John Lewis in early October, so let's hope the snow doesn't arrive first!
