New rugs for autumn 2012
There’s something wonderful about the feel of a soft rug underfoot. First thing in the morning, when you crawl out of bed and put your bare feet on a deep sheepskin, or at the end of the day, when you kick off your shoes and relax around the house, a rug adds a welcome warm addition to any home.
It’s not just the tactile quality a rug brings, however; a rug’s a great way to update a room, perhaps with a contrasting colour, and this season we’ve a beautiful collection of colours you can choose from.
One of the key trends this autumn is New Japan. Made up of cool palettes combining subtle and striking blues with natural, earthy tones and hints of striking brights, this range has a modern, almost Scandinavian feel to it, with simple, soft curves and waves.
The Yoko rug, in a cool navy mist finish, is stunning in design, with its gentle wavy pattern, reminiscent of Mount Fuji, and would add a subtle hint of the orient to any home. My favourite, however, is the hand woven Rumba: available in a choice of rustic colours, it’ll match most decors. But if you want a bit more eccentricity, then why not consider the spirally Bonsai - it’ll certainly liven up any neutral space. For a cosier look, and one that’ll look great in the bedroom, is the undulating Kyoto: you’ll find its soft wave pattern is very calming - and gorgeous under bare feet!
I also like the rhythmic pattern of the Pulse rug. It’s inspired by Japanese printed textiles and is one the most interesting in our collection.
If you fancy adding more drama to your living space then here’s another fabulous trend for this season: Theatre. Glamorous and elegant, the designs draw inspiration from the metallic theme seen on the fashion catwalks this year. Made predominantly from wool, they’ve been blended with viscose, which adds a luxurious silky sheen to each piece. Featuring neutral tones fused with rich purples and peacock blues, you’ll find a touch of the Art Deco within their delicate, geometric patterns.
The Adelphi rug comes in a choice of muted colours and has a delicate, tonal concentric design. You’ll notice the softer colours will complement dark coloured suites or statement furniture.
I also love the Waldorf’s simple design. Though it’s ultra contemporary there are hints of the classy opulence of the Jazz era. It’s definitely on my wish list this autumn!
If you’re like me and you hate the thought of dragging yourself out of bed on an icy December morning then you’ll want one of our Winter Warmers range of sheepskin rugs: they’re the ultimate cosy accessory. These rugs are particularly special to us because they’re made by the only tannery still in existence in the UK. They source the skins mainly from Exmoor and Dartmoor, then wash them in the gentle waters of moorland streams. Beautifully British and luxuriously soft, they’re a perfect winter treat!
A final note: don’t forget to grab a rug hold to sit your new rug on. It’s essential if you’ve hard floors as they’ll stop the rug slipping.
Now kick off those shoes!
