Modern living is often short on square feet; but rather than sacrificing the home you want, you can squeeze more from the space you've got. Our video gives you plenty of tips, using products from our House range, and I've given you more ideas below.

Don’t waste valuable space with bulky furniture: opt for sleek, more minimal styles instead. Choose pieces that are raised from the floor to give the illusion of added space, such as our Bailey Sofa which comes in a variety of sizes, including a snuggler, so you can choose one that fits your space perfectly.

An extendable dining table offers greater flexibility, teamed with folding or stacking seating such as the stylish Kartell Masters Chair. For those really tight on space, the Odyssey coffee table cleverly converts with ease, from a coffee table into a 4-seat dining table.

Make every item count with multifunctional pieces to really maximise your space: The Lynden Storage Bench is a smart way to stash your stuff. A sofa bed gives you an ‘extra bedroom’ and the Sacha Sofa bed has the added benefit of hidden storage too. The Kix range of occasional beds are really useful; by day they provide smart extra seating or footstools, but unzip them and they fold out into a handy bed when you have extra guests.

Free up valuable floor space, by going vertical. Use floating shelves such as Vitra Corniches shelves or Donato Storage Boxes to display your belongings. Or how about this Sapiens Bookcase, which can hold piles of books, CDs or DVDs in just a tiny 35x35cm footprint!

Opt for a space saving modular system such as our 'Mixit' range, to create customised bedroom storage that meets all of your needs. With 2 sizes of wardrobe frame, 3 drawer frame options and a selection of interior fittings along with 4 door finishes and 6 handle styles, you can create a look that is individual to you.

Choose a bed with built-in storage such as the Ollie Store Divan bed, which is great for storing away bulky items such as spare duvets and pillows. For kids’ bedrooms, consider our Stompa Uno range which offers lots of clever space-saving solutions to allow plenty of room for playing, studying and sleeping too. With so many options and add-ons, the room can be adapted to meet their needs as they grow!

Here are some more tricks of the trade:

  • Keep walls and window treatments in light tonal shades to make the room feel bigger
  • Avoid using bold patterns over large areas, which could dominate a small space. Uuse pattern and colour on smaller accessories instead
  • Use large mirrors and reflective finishes help to create a feeling of light and space
  • Use the same flooring throughout your home to help to make the space seem less broken up and hence appear bigger
  • Go large when selecting tiling for floors or walls! Because there’s less “repeat”, they’ll make the space seem larger.

Custom-built fitted furniture makes the most of every inch of available space and is tailor-made to meet your exact requirements. We offer a complete service, from planning to installation, to enable you to create not only your dream kitchen, but also contemporary home offices and streamlined bedrooms.
