Fresh from the annual CES show in Las Vegas, Head of Technology Buying, Matt Leeser, shares the home technology that will soon be coming our way.
Now that so many of us have tablets and smartphones, manufacturers are finding new and innovative ways for them to make our everyday lives easier. We could soon be preheating the oven, or starting the washing machine, on our journey home – from our smartphones.
The trend for ‘wearable technology’ is set to grow in 2014, as new apps and accessories bring computing power to wrist bands and other clothing by communicating with your smartphone. For example, Beats Studio headphones by Dr Dre feature active noise cancellation. You can wirelessly listen to music, adjust the volume, and take calls.
When it comes to TVs, this year size is everything. We’ll see more large Ultra High Definition (UHD) televisions, bringing that true cinema experience into our homes. With a 105-inch screen, the Samsung U8500 105 inch curved UHD TV delivers incredible picture quality. Launching in mid-April , the curved screen has four times the definition of a conventional HDTV, a wide 21:9 aspect ratio and PurColour technology to enhance colour depth and clarity. Everything from movies to sport comes alive in beautiful detail.
Tablets and laptops are evolving just as fast with greater portability and computing power available. We’ll also see further design innovation – like the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 – which converts from tablet to laptop with its flip over keyboard. And the Asus Transformer Book Trio, the Android tablet which transforms into a Windows laptop.
