Janome DC3050 Sewing Machine

Product information

Fully computerised and suitable for all fabrics, the Janome 3050 has a rotary drop-in bobbin for a smooth operation. It has a 1-step buttonhole function with a choice of 3 styles, so this sewing machine is a good choice for tailoring.

The 3050 has a further 47 stitches for even more variety. The electronic speed control gives you more control - even when sewing at a slow speed - while the integrated drop feed is invaluable when embroidering. Extra needle penetration and the reverse button is also good when stitching thicker fabrics.

Getting started's easy too: there's an automatic needle threader; a view-through bobbin cover so you know when you're low on thread; and with the side thread cutter, finishing off is neat.

Q & As

Janome DC3050 Sewing Machine 4.9 5 70 70
So easy to use! I bought the DC3050 to replace my 30yr + sewing machine and it's great. I was advised by another store selling Janome that I didn't need one this expensive and to go for a manual one, but I'm glad I read the reviews on John Lewis re the DC3050 as they helped me make the right choice. This is so easy to use, especially bringing the thread up from the bobbin holder - that used to be so frustrating and you can move your needle across automatically during sewing which is great for following a pattern. Also very quiet. There are so many benefits to this machine, I could go on and I would highly recommend it. Click and collect service at Waitrose is a great option. 18 November 2014
Delightfully useful acquisition Haven't yet had the opportunity to use it fully, but am greatly amazed at its competence and ease of use. Having experienced problems with my previous sewing machine, and given up hope of ever achieving more than basic straight lines, I am absolutely delighted. Booked a demonstration at John Lewis which greatly helped make my decision between two particular machines. Extremely pleased with my purchase. 05 November 2014
Brill At 2pm today I picked this up from my local Waitrose (I have to say that Click-n-collect is the best idea JLP ever had!). It's now 6pm and I've already made a pair of trousers! Admittedly they had already been cut out when my last machine went ppffftzzap, but even so... It is an extremely complex machine, however it's proved to be easier to use than my basic Brother machine that it's replacing. I just love the blind hem foot, and the automatic buttonhole foot, and the needle-threader, and ... and ... and ... :-) It has a well laid out instruction manual - although a little unclear in some places where it did need reading two or three times to get it correct. But apart from this it's an excellent machine for the experienced sewer, but also one that with a little perseverance an enthusiastic newcomer could master well. 28 October 2014
It won't make a cup of tea... I hadn't intended to buy a computerised sewing machine nor spend this much but the product I had intended to buy didn't have speed control, that was the one thing that I really wanted! Jeanette, in the Leicester store, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and able to give pragmatic advice on the brands and styles there, rather than just giving me a sales pitch. I'm no experienced sewer but the projects I do can mix between fine and detailed, to quilting and heavy - or stretchy - fabrics. She took time to give me a full demonstration in store and I was able to practice on the machine without being rushed. It is so simple to use and the instruction manual is very clear. The range of stitches is incredible - I never though I would need so many - but in fact it will only improve any work I do. It is an amazing bit of kit that does all the hard work for you although - as we joked - the only thing it won't do is make a cup of tea! 01 October 2014
Great Little Machine When my old machine died I wanted something easy to use and with a needle threader so this machine fitted the bill. I have to say it has been great and done everything I have asked of it. I even won the Great MK Sewing Bee using it. :-) 15 September 2014
Really good product I bought this machine having read the reviews on the John Lewis website. It came highly recommended and I can only agree with that! Also, buying it from a John Lewis store gives me peace of mind should anything, in the unlikely event, go wrong then it is easy to return. Although the machine is simple to use, it has features that help give a really professional finish! 13 September 2014
Fantastic machine I went to John Lewis in Kingston for advice on my sewing machine purchase, having researched machines on the website first, and I am very glad that I did. The assistant was extremely knowledgeable about the machines on sale and although I had not intended to spend quite so much, I took her advice and bought this Janome machine for its additional useful features and for its reputation for quality. I am delighted with it. It is easy to use, relatively quiet, the instruction book is clear and it has a host of useful features. The speed control is fantastic, as is the auto tension; the lock stitch and overlocking are very useful and the one step button hole facility is brilliant (with 3 styles of button hole). It is very easy to change stitch, stitch length, etc, and the machine runs very smoothly. The needle threader works easily and the thread cutter is very well placed. It has many useful stitches as well as decorative ones. In addition to the expert advice, another advantage of buying from JL - which I hadn't known about - is that you are offered a free one-to-one demonstration of the machine after purchase. I had my machine for two weeks before my demonstration session, by which time I had made 3 garments on it, but nonetheless the demonstration was very useful, showing me features I had not yet explored and explaining the uses of stitches I had not yet used. I came home with a set of annotated samples as my 'notes' to look back at when needed. I would recommend the demonstration, even to experienced sewing machine users. All in all, I am delighted with the machine and with the support offered by JL staff. 17 August 2014
Wow! I'm in love! I originally went to John Lewis with the view of buying a Brother machine, as 'on paper', you seem to get a lot of 'bang for your buck' - functions such as needle up/down etc that tend to only be available on more expensive machines from other brands. I'm very glad I drove the hour and a half to a store though, as the machine was very plastic with a poor build quality, when compared to other machines. After talking to an assistant, I decided on a newly introduced (to John Lewis at least) Janome, the Decor 30. On returning home I had a look at the Janome machines on the website and saw this machine. The idea of auto tension and stitch lock persuaded me to cancel and reorder this instead - I'm SO glad I did. It is quiet, easy to thread (make sure you follow the instructions the first few times though), the needle threader was fiddly the first few times but it works great now I have the hang of it, it is sturdy, useful side thread cutter ( never had one of these before and it is surprisingly handy), quick and easy to change stitch and length etc, stitch lock is great, nice metal pedal (not one of those light plastic ones that I seem to kick and have to spend 10 minutes scrabbling under the table to retrieve). Quite a few feet come with it too. The manual stated a zigzag foot, button hole foot and 'see-through' satin stitch foot but it also includes an over cast foot (for neat edges at your seams if you don't have an over locker) and a blind hem foot. It seems that it is highly recommended that only Janome bobbins are used, as they are slightly taller than most. They are available in packs of ten from John Lewis and are definitely worth adding to your order. It is more money than I was expecting to spend, by some way, but I am very glad I took the chance. It really is a great machine for anyone who loves to sew. However, it should come with a health warning because I am having some very late nights, unable to tear myself away from my new best friend! 15 August 2014
