Q & As

JL Mini Sewing Machine 3.7 5 26 26
Brilliant! Very light, pretty, able to do all sorts of stitches. Very good value. Easy to use even for a 78 year old like me! Two things would make it even better, a built in light and a cover. A cloth cover would be fine, just something to look neat and protect it from dust. It is light and so easy to move around. Altogether a very good product indeed. 10 April 2014
Very disappointed I have bought this machine twice now, and both times it has broken with the same fault (the bobbin stops moving round and will not pick up the needle thread). No sewing machine repair shops know how to fix it, and it is so uneconomical to send it back to JL to fix. For such a cheap and handy machine (which is brilliant when it works) it is actually a big disappointment. Also v unsustainable to have to keep buying new machines as this is cheaper to do than to fix the original... 09 April 2014
Great bargain I have brought my third machine for my mother's 80th birthday present as she finds it's simplicity, bright colours and reassurance of the brand good for her. The best bit is choosing what colour to go for. When she murders it ...I don't know how ....it's easy to replace 27 March 2014
Great Little Machine I got this for Christmas as my first sewing machine and its a great little machine! Many people say thats its too basic but it does more than you think. Made by janome its a great make and although doesn't have as many stictching options as other machines, the variety you get for a small machine is great. I've been using mine on a weekly basis since Christmas with no problem at all. Although it doesn't have a light, it does have a reverse button which is greate for starting and finishing stitches and Janmoe accessories fit on it so the feet can be changed too. A great little starter machine. 24 March 2014
Pay more, get more I bought this machine for my grand daughters and they love it. The bright red machine is cute and is easy to set up - excellent instructions. The speed is quite slow so good for kids but it is noisy, not a problem here as we're noisy too! Downsides are quite big though, especially for a machine which will be used by children. Mainly no off/on switch which is a health and safety issue. I've overcome this by taping the 2 wires together at the top and we unplug the foot pedal when it isn't being used. Also, no light, making it hard to thread the needle. Overall, good value for money and a good first machine. You get what you pay for, after all. 24 March 2014
Very Disappointed! I bought this sewing machine out of my 50th Birthday money and was extremely pleased with the colour and price. On day one of using the machine everything was as it should be, the next day, even though the machine was threaded as the day before it will not sew!!! The thread was snapping, the bobbin gathering thread and the needle bent. After 2 hours of trying to solve the problem with the easy to use instructions, I have given up and will return for a refund. I think the problem is due to the needle hitting the silver base plate, I have no idea why. I have bought many items from the John Lewis brand in the past but this is very disappointing. 27 February 2014
small but perfectly formed I have wanted a sewing machine for ages but the price put me off as I don`t have a great deal of time and would not be able to use it that often, when I saw this one for sale I could not resist I have now had time to use it to alter some trousers and it is great, not that fast and would be ideal for a youngster to learn on, but does everything you need for some basic dressmaking. Have just brought some material to make a top all I now need to do is find the time to do it!! 18 February 2014
Just stopped working I was very pleased when I received a brand new John Lewis sewing machine because it was my birthday. I got home and began setting it up however there was no power. I was very disappointed but I thought that I would exchange it for another one, the only difference being the colour. In the shop the machine was tested and seemed to be working fine. I was very exited that my new sewing machine was working and i would be able to begin sewing. I got home and the machine was working fine. I read the clear instructions and began threading my machine. I was instructed to press down on the foot pedal and was extremely disappointed to find THERE WAS NO POWER. The machine just stopped working it was like some sort of spell had been cast on my machine. How unlucky can you be? Two machines, both not working. I have decided to return the machine and get a FULL refund. I was surprised at John Lewis as they have a very good reputation for quality products and they have been reliable to me in the past. 15 February 2014
