Rated 5 out of 5 by Janice06 A great birthday present
I bought the Mini sewing machine for my granddaughter's 8th birthday and she is thrilled with it. I think it will give her many years of enjoyment as well as being productive. She is about to make some bunting which I think I am going to be presented with soon! A really good buy at a reasonable price.Up to John Lewis's usual high standards! Well done!

Love this little machine. I was not sure what to expect after reading some of the reviews on here, but I am so pleased with my little machine. I keep it in the conservatory to do little hobby sewing projects and I keep my full sized machine upstairs. I purchased this mini one to take on holidays with me.
It's great having the decorative and more functional stitches too. I don't expect it to do what my full sized machine does, but this is just so light and convenient and fun to use.

i love going round John Lewis and came across this mini Sewing Machine and fell in love with it. I make cards and also do Scrapbooking but I was struggling with holding a needle to sew around my cards. It does ten different style of stitching and is just what I needed to finish my cards and scrapbook pages.

IT DOES THE JOB BUT OFCOURSE IT IS NOT AS POWERFUL AS BROTHER OR OTHER MAKE. I GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

lovely machine for anyone scared of electric sewing machines like me!
The speed is nice and slow so is easy to control. Easy to set up. Instruction booklet is clear to follow and videos on youtube for janome sew mini which is almost identical are useful too. Nice and light so easy to move around when needed.
I had a few issues at first with thread tangling in the bobbin hole but only when I'd used the reverse stitching, hasn't happened since although I now tend to tie off my ends on the reverse of the work rather than use the reverse stitch function as I am used to hand tying with my other machine and I'm still a bit wonky at driving in reverse so need more reversing practice to make it look neater before I use it as standard.
I read in other reviews and the description for product that she is for lightweight use only. I have mostly been sewing with cotton but also some lightweight denim and for brooches she has sewn through a triple layer of lightweight denim, felt and card with no issues so far.
The only things I wish were different are that an on/off switch would be handy and a needle disengage whilst bobbin winding would be good/safer.
Not sure how long she will last but I usually use a vintage 1911 singer handcrank so really can't compare brass and plastic I hope she lasts a while though as curing my electric phobia is a miracle.
I bought the buttery yellow model on sale, beautiful bargain.
Sew far she's been stitching mini bunting, brooches, rag dolls, wallhangings. Finally some projects completed!

My husband bought this for our granddaughter aged 8 in pink, she was delighted.
She had shown an interest in sewing and was really good on my machine so we bought her a starter machine of her own.
A light would be a great addition especially when threading the needle
