John Lewis Amy Office Chair
I bought this chair in brown after seeing both the brown and white ones in store. I'm sure the description label said 'reclaimed leather' which I assumed to mean off cuts or some kind of recycled leather. The ones on the shop floor looked and felt like leather, soft and pliable and with a dull sheen and natural patina, not at all plasticky. What I received was basically a vinyl covered chair. The 'leather' is fake and looks, feels and smells fake. It turns out they use 'bonded leather' which is merely leather fibres ground up and mixed in with vinyl bonded to a woven backing. NOT leather in any ordinary sense of the word. I'm considering returning it because it's quite horrid.

The chair was initially good, but after a while of using it. I started feeling the metal below the seat, and I had to seat further back on my chair in order not to feel very uncomfortable..
In case you may think it's because of my weight... I'm a guy weighing 58kgs (128lbs).

After self assembly and within hours, I noticed that chrome flakes were littering the floor in my study. The problem was that chrome was breaking off the armrests. Reported the problem to J Lewis who, as ever, were positive in their response and helpful in providing a solution.
I explained that the chair was fine and that just the armrests needed replacing ( I was keen to avoid having to assemble a complete new chair.) The response I got, from an extremely helpful lady was that they would send a new chair but I could just take the new armrests from the package and return the package together with the faulty arms. This was done with no fuss at all and my chair is now to my complete satisfactio

I purchased two of these chairs 3 months ago after trying the chair in store and liking the look. As with other customers, I was not impressed with the quality and parts had broken in the packaging and one of the chairs had a tear from another part in the box penetrating the leather during transportation. John lewis duly replaced the chair. Unfortunately, after a very short time of use, both chairs developed unbelievable creaking noises and random loud clunking noises. I have contacted John Lewis now to have a refund on these bad quality chairs. The materials used are also badly bonded in places.

Poor quality finish
I have to agree with the latest reviews on this item. This chair has got very poor chrome finished arms and feet, with pitting, scratched and blemishes all over. The seat back also has marks on which won't come off.
It's a shame as this chair is actually rather comfy, apart from the fact that the arms are metal so your elbows ache after about 5 mins of use. If this had passed arm tops it would be much better.
The delivery was on time but I was made to sign the 'we assembled your goods' as the driver didn't have time to do it.
I have made contact with John Lewis and they are being helpful as usual, hence why I still buy from them but I would be careful if you're thinking about this chair, not the standards you'd expect from JLP.

Poor Quality Finish
We decided to go ahead and order this chair despite some of the negative reviews about the quality. Unfortunately, as soon as we unpacked the chair we realised that the negative reviews were accurate.
The finish of the chair was awful. Baggy leather and terrible stitching around the rear of the chair ruined it completely. It is comfortable but it looks like a cheap finish and certainly not a £200 chair when compared to my own study chair from Dwell which was only £80 more than the Amy.
The customer service was excellent as you would expect and it was collected very quickly following my call to the returns team.
Such a shame as it looks great in the pictures and would have looked perfect in my girlfriend's home office - maybe it's just 'luck of the draw' with this particular item but this shouldn't be the case with John Lewis. Disappointing!

Smart & Functional - The Amy Chair
As this is an online only product I was pleased to see it on display at the local JL store. Having sat and swivelled I was impressed with its feel and looks so placed the order. The self-assembly part was no real problem but I could imagine some would find the casters a little difficult to push into the legs without some kind of (soft) hammer. The only fault found with the chair was that the finish on the arms wasn't up to standard with pitting of the plating and some deep scratches. The paperwork included a customer helpline 0800 number which got me through to the manufacturers directly (in America?). They took the details and said a set of replacement arms would be with me in about 21 days.
A package duly arrived, alarmingly labelled 'ARMS', but which had obviously been cleared by customs. These were perfect and apart from my little set-back, the chair could have 5 stars.

Poor Quality Product
Having seen the Amy White office chair in store and finding it good looking, nice quality leather and very comfortable, I decided to buy the brown version, which you can only buy online. I was very disappointed with it. The leather was poor and not the same quality as the white version. It was bonded, very cheap looking and a patchy brown colour which does not come across in online translation. The stitching was very poor, out of line in lots of places, the chrome arms were pitted, discoloured and very poorly cast. The backing and underside of the chair were covered in the cheapest backing you could possibly find! Not the quality I come to expect from John Lewis and it's branded products. Don't bother!! Mine went straight back as did other John Lewis brand products......
